Surnames: fortunate
my family's last name if fortunate and I need to know what country that name came from and the meaning.someone out there,please help me!!

There is a similar surname on page 69 of “Our Italian Surnames,” by Joseph G. Fucilla, published 1959, reprinted 1987.

FORTUNATO. It means “fortunate” and is listed among desirable surnames.

But the similar Italian surname FORTUNA, according to page 161 of “New Dictionary of American Family Names,” by Elsdon C. Smith, published 1973, is “a name sometimes given to foundlings.”
