HI,

I am looking for any information on Gyritha Marie Jensen, born about 1859 in Denmark. She married a Swedish man with the surnmae Hammer. Does anyone have any information on her?
Her father was Anders Jensen and mother was Juliette Caroline Olsen. She had a brother Anton Julius Jensen who wentto Australia.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing that you have her line going back so I'll just tell you what little I found on her going forward:
born Aug 28 1859 in Skt Marie's parish, Frederiksborg to parents Anders Jensen and Juliette Caroline Olsen, she married August Julius Hammer who was born July 7 1855 in Sweden. By 1916 they were living in Kobenhavn. August Julius Hammer died sometime between 1921 and 1925.
...and I suspect it was in Oct 1921- but haven't been able to locate his death record.

I wish I could answer those questions but while I can find her in Frederiksborg in 1859 (birth) and 1873 (confirmation) and in Kobenhavn on the 1916, 1921 and 1925 census records I couldn't locate them between 1873 and 1916 other than the mention in her father's probate in 1901 that says she was married to August Julius Hammer. They could have been married as early as 1879 and any children would have been long out of the household by 1916 (though I didn't see any names listed in Anders Jensen's probate that looked like they might be Gyritha's children) And I don't speak Danish - only the bits that I've learned by doing this, I can usually figure out the parish records, but the probate is beyond me. I did find a couple of other tidbits for you - August Julius Hammer died Sept 24 1921 in Kobenhavn and Gyritha died January 2 1927 in Kobenhavn.

I was born in Denmark but live today in Australia. I found the family in Helsingør, Denmark in the 1860 Census. Their address was Sankt Annagade 97, Helsingør, Denmark. You can look the address up on Google Maps. The family is:

Anders Jensen, 34 yrs old, Carpenter, born in Abberup (?)
Juliette Olsen, 24 yrs old, His Wife, born Aalsgaard, Tikøb, Frederiksborg
Anton Julius Jensen, 3 yrs old, Their child, born Helsingør
Gyrithe Marie Jensen, 1 yr old, Their child, born Helsingør

Not sure where Abberup is, but there is a town called Ebberup on the island of Fun in Denmark. That might be Anders Jensens birthplace.

Yes I can translate them. I just need to get a copy of them. To search through the handwritten census for Copenhagen in 1921 and 1925 is going to take a very long time, as they are not entered into a computer system yet. The census for 1880 is and I just found Gyritha Marie Jensen in Copenhagen, 20 yrs old, not married and working as a household maid in Rosengaarden 12, Copenhagen.

Reply and attach the census files if you have them. If not, it's going to take some time before I can get them for you.

You should find Gyritha living at Vendersgade 11 in 1916,1921, and 1925. (sorry, I didn't write down the opslag #s)
Gyrtiha died 2 Jan 1927 (Skt Andreas Sogn)

I had thought that their probate records might be of help - those that I've found on my own family listed all the children - but I'm not familiar enough with Københavnske skiftearkivalier to find (or translate) the actual records.
I did find August Hammer on opslag 161 in 'Københavns byret, skifteretten fra 1919 Navneregister: Hovedregister 1921'

And Gyritha on opslag 143 in 'Københavns byret, skifteretten fra 1919 Navneregister: Hovedregister 1927
