Lucinda Cofer (b 1825 -married April 1844 to Gabriel Jackson b.1814
Lucinda was the daughter of Simeon B. Cofer 1787-1858
who married Feb. 10, 1821 to Martha Turner b.1795

Simeon B. Cofer also had sons William P Cofer and Augustus Ernest
Cofer.

They lived in what was at the time Jackson County, Georgia.

I am a great grandaughter of Augustus Ernest Cofer,
the grand daughter of Pleasant Asbury Cofer,
the daughter of Jewel Cofer Simpson married to
Clyde Taylor Simpson, Sr.

Do you know who was the father of Simeon B. Cofer?

Nancy,
I have not been able to determine Simeon Cofer's parents. I received some information from a researcher that shows Simeon in TN before moving to GA in 1820. He was born in VA. If I ever get out of researching in GA, I will look there. Simeon Cofer is a brick wall and Gabriel Jackson is another one for me right now.
Simeon Cofer (Coffer, Copher) was my ggg-gf through their dau Lucinda m. Gabriel Jackson (my gg) through their dau Martha Frances m. Geo. D. Ferguson (my g-gf) through their dau Martha Belle m. Henry T. Terry (my gf) through their dau Evelyn (my mother) to me.
Good luck. I will add your name and if I find out I will keep you posted.

Thank you B. Kimble.
If you are the great great great granddaughter of
Simeon Cofer and I am also, we are distant cousins.
Thanks for any info about Simeon Cofer.
Our research ends with him. We have his
military records, etc but we do not know
who his parents were. Thanks for your reply
and your lead. We have that too but haven't
found more.

Mel Grand, Thank you for the information on Simeon B. Cofer.
We've believed our Simeon B. Cofer came from Tennessee.
His sons are Augustus E. Cofer and William Cofer who lived
and inherited land from Simeon their father in/near Statham, Georgia.

My mother, Mamie Jewel Cofer's great great grandfather was Simeon B. Cofer.
Her grandfather was Augustus E. Cofer, a Civil War vet.

Her father was Pleasant Asbury Cofer, a Methodist Minister and writer of hymns.
(Their home was - at/near Jackson County, Statham, Georgia in 1800s.

Thanks, Nancy Simpson

Mel, thanks also for your information. Simeon B. Cofer was my ggg-gf. He first appears in Jackson Co. Ga abt. 1820 and married Martha Turner 1821. I am descended through their daughter Lucinda Cofer Jackson. He died before 1860, poss. 1858, but we have not been able to locate his grave. Thanks for your help.

I'm going through the Cofer/Copher line and have reached Simeon so found your messages. I saw that you received info from someone that Simeon went from TN to GA but didn't know his parents. It is my understanding that Simeon B. Cofer was named after Simeon Buford, a neighbor of Joel Cofer when he lived in Virginia. Simeon bought land next to Joel in 1784 and then Joel moved to North Carolina after 1801 where he died. Several of his children then moved to TN. If you would like more about this, please contact me via E mail.

I am one of the administrators of the Cofer DNA study. We would love to have someone from this line tested for our DNA study to determine which line Simeon's descendants represent. We need a male descendant that is surnamed Cofer. If any of you of this line would like more information, please contact me.
The test is very simple. Just a "Q-tip" type swab from the inside of the cheek is all we need.
For additional information, you can check out the DNA program at www.familytreedna.com
