Admin Note:

It will be easier for someone to help if you'll provide some idea of where your COHEN ancestor lived.

Good luck!

If one were to "start at the top" and go from there, the history of Commdr. Uriah Phillips Levy is an amazing and well documented commercial then Naval career to study. There may well be references or at the least, direction.

But what is the connection with the original poster's query about a sea captain named COHEN?

Kosher.Kitty is also our site. First our last name is Cohen. The family history states as follows:

We had pirates/slave traders back in the day. Out of N.C. I have found some information on this at the local library in regards to Jewish slave trades. Not something to be proud of....but it is in the family history....just wanted any feed back from anyone who had any more info on this subject. We were 3 Jewish brothers, married 3 Jewish sisters, out of N.C.; then migrated to Alabama then to Texas.

Thank you Capt for your info...the history s/b a good read.
