It appears that the serviceman who died in Texas in 1943 is very likely the one you are looking for. At the site Familysearch.org you can find him in the Texas Deaths 1890 - 1970. His attached death cert image shows his mother was Irma (Finlay) Rogers, it also shows that he was unwed.
