HARVEY
Im trying to trace my gggrandad. He emigrated to States between 1905 and 1910. 1910 census record for an Edward Harvey 1870, Brooklyn Ward 31, Kings New York. He was single.A lodger. Although some of the details are incorrect. Says he was born in USA. When infact he was born in Ireland. He listed he worked as a Waiter. He arrived back in Ireland in 1920/1921 and told the family he was working as a Waiter in New York. Im sure this is our Edward Joseph Harvey b1870 in Ireland.
We dont know what happened to him - he simply disappeared and it would be fantastic if we could solve the mystery. When people were entering the US between 1910 and 1930 would photos have been taken? If so, is it possible to get a copy? If he was employed as a waiter in a hotel in New York would he have needed a Social Security No. The last was heard of Edward Harvey was in he late 1920s when he wrote to his family in Ireland from the States.
ANY HELP ON THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!
Thanks

Thanks a million. Will give that a try Thomas. I remember seeing a documentary years ago and it showed immigrants being photographed (families). Id imagine it would have been difficult to take photos with as you say so many people entering at one time

A little more info would help. His parents names. What city did he live in? Where in Ireland was he born? Is it possible he would be listed as Joseph Edward Harvey? I am finding a lot of info under that name.

Joseph Edward Harvey b1870 Dublin. Parents were Joseph Harvey b1837 died 1889 Dublin. Mother was Elizabeth Bridget O'Connor b1839 Galway.joseph/Elizabeth were married 5 Feb 1860 Dublin.
Have found a listing on US 1910 census for Edward Harvey b1870. He listed himself as being single and occupation Waiter in a hotel. His wifes name was Mary Anastasia Harvey (formerly McGrath from Waterford) Was known as Anastasia. She died 23/9/47 buried Dublin. We know he was working as a Waiter in the USA. He was at his daughter Josephine death in 1905 in Dublin. So he left Ireland between 1905/1910 (think that was him on the 1910 census). Believe he returned to Ireland for possibly his daughter Marys wedding to a Harold Long in 1920/1921 in Dublin. He returned to the States after the wedding. Last heard of him was a letter home in the late 1920s/early 1930s.
His three children were Josephine b1893/died 1905 Dublin, Mary b1896 died 1954 Dublin and son John Joseph Harvey b1894 died 1961 Dublin.
Its possible he was listed under Joseph Edward or perhaps he used Edward joseph Harvey. Really not sure.
Thanks
