I am looking for the death of Augusta "Gussie" Kindler Gundlach. I believe that she may have died in the early 1940's. She was a a resident of Koch Hospital. She is my husband's grandmother. She may have had TB.

I couldn't find her on the Secretary of State's website which has the death certificates from 1910-1962. It could be that her name was not transcribed correctly.

Couldn't find her on the St. Louis Public Library's index to obits but it doesn't cover all of the 1940s. I used both her maiden name and her married name.

I couldn't find her doing a quick search of the censuses using both Augusta and Gussie. It is possible that Augusta was her middle name?

Thank you for the post. Since my original post I found out that Gussie had remarried (at least once) and became a "Davis". I checked the death cert from 1938-1945 using only the first names of Augusta, Auguste and Gussie with a birth year of 1896 with no luck. We went to visit my husband's family and in the course of many discussions it appears that Gussie was a bit of a party girl. She was born and lived in Belleville,IL but was a patient and died at Koch hospital. I strongly believe that she is buried somewhere on the grounds of the former hospital. (Evidently her family had disowned her so if she isn't at Koch she is more that likely buried in a "pauper cemetery") I have been unable to find anyone or any department that can help me with those records. I live in Florida and am totally unfamiliar with St Louis. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions as to who to contact would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried to find her on the 1940 census?

You could try contacting the St. Louis Genealogical Society to see if they can help.

There are some Augusta Davises listed on the Illinois death database.
