Robert Shaw alive in 1870 census.Is the a death index for that time frame

Surnames: Shaw
Robert Shaw was from New York.Was living with his son Rueben
in Garden Valley in 1870 but He is not listed in the 1880.
hE WAS 74 YRS OLD IN 1870 AND WAS BORN ABOUT 1796.Any help as to how I could find out when he died would be greatly appreciated.

There is no Robert Shaw listed in the Jackson Co. death index for that time period. Sorry.

There was an R. D. Shaw that moved to the Humbird area (Clark County) and then died in the Dakotas in December of 1887. This is a possibility. Maybe checking the 1880 census in the Dakotas will shed some light. Just a suggestion.
