Surnames: Omand
William Omand of Sandwick, Orkney was contested into Hudson Bay Company service in 1783 and stationed at Churchill, NWT, Canada (today it is Churchill, Manitoba, Canada). William was stationed in Churchill for the next twenty two years until he returned home to Orkney in 1805. It is possible he may have went home to visit on occasion. He was about forty three or forty four years old when he returned to Orkney. I think his birth year was around 1761? He left in Canada two children, William Omand (my gg-grandfather) and his sister Mary Omand. I would like to make the Orkney connection.
