Hello everyone,

My great grandfather James Ainscow sailed to the America on Mar 18, 1903. The ship manifest states that he was married when he came to this country and going to Sharp St, Conshohocken, PA. I do not know who the first wife is or whether he abandoned his first family in England. His place of birth is listed as Manchester, Lancashire, Eng. He married before 1906 to Laura Thawley in Mongomery Co., PA. In 1910, Laura's father, Alfred Thawley had become guardian to my grandfather, Richard Alfred Ainscoe (another spelling) who was 4 years old at the time according to the federal census. Putting this all together that would most likely mean my great grandfathers name might be Richard Ainscow or Ainscough (The combination of my grandfathers name is comprised of both parents name?? - Longshot)

I recently found his birth and death records but no listing for parents. He died in Clifton, Passaic, New Jersey on July 1968. That listing had his name as James Ainscough. The ships manifest also states more but cannot read it as it is in a different handwriting........then the writing is clearer and says, Manitoba, Canada. Not sure if that was his destination originally.

About his second wife Laura. She died in 1958 in Pennsylvania just a year before I was born. My dad tells me they had separated before 1957 as he never met my grandfather and he had been courting my mother since that time; Francis, my great grandfathers youngest went to go looking for him in Florida but was killed enroute by a car accident. She was almost the same age as my mother. Laura, before her death was living with another man.

James other children were William S. Ainscoe who died 1966 in Sedgwick, KS; Mary; Edith; Robert; James; Ethel (Lottie); Elizabeth "Libby" Racic (married Nick); and Francis.

If any of this sounds familiar, please write to me as I need to fill in the blanks.

Hello Susan Faught, My grandfather was james aiscoe. Married to Laura Thawley. One of their children- Ethel; was my mother.I have been searching for info about my grand pop -before he came to America. Why did he leave England- who did he leave behind and why? The spelling does pose a problem as there could be so many ways it eas spelled.Id like to see the ship anifest. Who ewas he married to before my grand mom. I don't think any of us knew he was married before. Or at least my mom never made mention of it. Richard alfred ainscoe married Edna Dunfee- 1930 in philadelphia.Daughter of clara thawley and harry dunfee.Clara was sister to my grandmom Laura. So that means he married his cousin.I never knew my grand pop lived til 1968. My mom always said he was a gentle soul. and as far as I knew he had died way before the date you gave. My mom would have kept in touch with him. I need to call my cousin Robert he is son of Libby Racich.( daughter of james and laura. Please respond

Susan Faught, Just a couple more facts. James ainscoe youngest , Francis Didn't go-to-florida-looking for her dad livedIn new york and was brought back to consohocken for burial. I was there.William and richard both died in wichita kansas. I used to write to my uncle Bill. And i'm positive that my grandpop died. And is buried in west conshohocken.James ainscoe the son of my grandpop died in-albanynew york. Edith, and also mary died locally too. mary spent some time on the west coast but came back towards the end.Robert ainscoe also died here . He lived behind us in Swedeland ,pa.My mom Ethel and aunt libby also died here in pa.My aunt libby has Richard.Robert ,sandra,Buddy(in Portugal), billyand i other alive. My mom had 3- myself- james and thomas.Uncle Bill never hadny kids. Uncle bob had 2 from his first wife and 2 from aunt edith had 1 black child - also betty - and james and dinky(dead). So I really think the one you found that died in nj Isn't our family. I found on uk that a james aiscoe was born about 1878 and was registered in 1879. district Bury and in Lancashire greater MAnchester England. My mom always said her dad came over on a cattle ship. He sneakedaboard. He was very poor. So I can't see him coming over the normal way. They were very poor my mom whole life. When they lived in conshohocken it was right next to the rail road. I remember being there-once. There was a can of beans locked up in a china closet. THe house was really bad.So I really think who ever died in nj wasn't my grandpop. I need tpo check the cemetry records in west conshy.

We are related. I haved talked to your grandmother Theresa and my cousin Brian in Florida. I have a christmas picture with my cousin Terry, Alfred, Timothy, and little Mark, with me and my brothers and sisters taken at Aunt Theresa's home., it is very faded but my dad said he will give it to me. It was taken before my family left Phildelphia to move first to Pennsacola, FL, and then later to Barstow, CA where our van broke down. My mom died shortly thereafter in a car accident and a few yrs later we moved to Sonoma County, California.

I would love to hear from you! Are you Alfred John Ainscoe?

My mom was Edith Loretta Ainscoe who married Andrew Baback. I am June Baback by birth but somehow everyone started to call me Sue or Susan (from a boy named Sue by artist Johnny Cash in Florida and the name stuck. My dad called me Sissy as I was sister to my eldest sibling, then friends started with just Sue or Susan and somehow my name got changed before we got to the Mohave Desert.

My email address is Rddrgan@

I have tried mapping the family genealogy from your side but my cousin Brian or my Aunt Theresa never sent me anything back. The genealogy online has privacy filtering and can't be viewed by anyone else but I would sure like to know. I don''t even have Theresa's info at all. Who her parents where or her maiden name.

You might ask them that it would be nice if I had there genealogy too. I have tried and failed to give the hints.

Relative in Healdsburg, Sonoma Co., CA

You can reach me a Rddrgan@aol. com. I do not have many of the family forward from my cousin Alfred Brian Ainscoe. Or your moms maiden name/dates. Your grandmother I have pestered her on her maiden name but all she sends me is about Florida. I know your grandfather had dau Terry, Timothy Wayne, and a Mark Steven Ainscoe. and of course Alfred Brian. My moms brother died on Aug 10, 1992 in Pinellas Park, FL.. Still trying to put the genealogy in my database but for some reason you guys keep sending me weather reports and nothing to do with genealogy. My mom died on Oct 2, 1969 in Barstow, San Bernardino CO, CA in a auto accident. Your great Aunt Edith Ainscoe Baback.

Please. Please, keep in touch! Let me know what you find out.
