Vicky,
I just read your message, and wonder if you are related, as my ggrandmother was Maria Concepcion Lopez Ramirez, who married Ambrocio Alcides Babilonia Talavera.
Let me know if you connect,
Saludos,
Ellen

It's difficult to say where the name originates from, but as it is Babilonia, it has a connection to Iraq. Arabic or Sephardic? I don't know. The earliest mention of a Babilonia related surname in Mallorca is Babiloni that dates to 1528. The first one in Puerto Rico is Capt. Miguel Babilonia Polanco, from Mallorca, who settled in Moca in the 1760s. The other variation for Babilonia is Bibiloni, also on Mallorca.

There are Babilonias in Mexico during the 1780s, and two small towns in Venezuela named Babilonia, another in Brazil if I recall correctly. In the 19th c there are a small number of Babilonias in Italy, as there are today.

Wow a breakthrough.
Ellen:
My name is Manuel Fernandez Cabrero. Ia m originally from Ponce, PR. My mom and dad are both from "El Pepino". I currently live with my wife & kids in Louisiana.
My mother's full name is Maria Emilia Cabrero Babilonia. She is the granddaughter of Don Tomas Antero Babilonia-Talavera. Judging by the weird first name and the perfect match of the last names (as we use them in PR) your great-grandfather and mine must have been brothers.
Don Tomas married twice. First with my ggrandmother Enriqueta Nicanora Kleibring Sotomayor from Moca and second with Aurelia Fradera Quinones from san german. From the first marriage came my grandmother Maria Luisa Babilonia Kleibring. Maria Luisa married Manuel CabreroRoman from San Sebastian (Pepino).
My Babilonia family tree stops with Tomas A. and I would love to have more information about their parents, grandparents, and siblings if you have it. That part of my family tree seems to have died early and I can't get any information on it.
I have the names of all of Don Tomas kids (13 in total, the man was busy) which I could share if you like.
Thanks!
Manuel
