Hi I would love to help, as I think John Owen Fallen and Sarah Gallagher are my great great grandparents. If you could share any information e.g. scan of certificates my husband is really good at reading those (he has spent 10 years + on research of his own family)

Look forward to hearing

Lucy

Surnames: FALLEN of Partick, Glasgow
Looking for information on the Fallen family who lived at 42 Well Street, Partick, Glasgow in the 1880s and 1890s. Our ancestor was a Denis Fallen, married to a Mary Cherry in March 1897, and his father was named as Denis Fallen on this marriage certificate, and his mother as Sarah Fallen. According to the census information, Owen Fallen was his father.
Denis was the oldest of several siblings, including Bridget, Michael, Joseph, Alice, Sarah, John and James. Does anyone have any information about this family?

This is an amazing coincidence. Last night I started researching my family tree and think I have correctly traced it back to Fallen at 42 wells street. My Papa James Fallen was the son of Denis Fallen and Mary Cherry. I was slightly confused by the marriage cert showing the father as Denis but on the census it shows as Owen ? I too would love to find out more information.

Hi - I have fund out that Owen Fallen name was actually John Owen Fallen. He was born between 1848 and 1849 in Ireland. He was a ships labourer and he married Sarah Gallacher on 19th July 1869 in Bonhill, Dunbarton, Dubartonshire, Scotland.

John's Owen parents are Dennis and Bridget Fallen - we think Bridget's maiden name is also Fallen.

Hi,thank you for the helpful information. Its interesting how confusing the name changes can make researching!I am really pleased I found this website :) You are one step ahead of me but hopefully I can now have a go at searching the Irish records.Have you done that yet? Denis and Mary Fallen were my Great Grandparents, are you related to them too?

Yes I am related great great grandparents. We struggled to get much further back on the Irish side due to the records being destroyed in the fire. In addition you come up against the issue of English translations aswell as English may have been a second language and many could not read or write. The marriage certficate we have is signed with an x

Yes that is a shame about the fire destroying records. I am very new to all of this and am fortunate to have a good start with your information. I will let you know if I come up with anything new. Best wishes Carolyn
