Hi! I am just beginning to research my family lines. My gg-grandfather was John Maher (b.around 1859 in Ireland, d. 1881 in Westchester Co., NY) he was married to Moria Loretta Heany (b.1862, Westchester Co., NY, d. 21 January 1922) They had one child, Mary Agnes Maher(b. 16 March 1879 in Westchester Co., NY, d.1946, Long Island, NY

Not much is know about John Maher -- nothing about family, he was born in Ireland, but it is unknow where. Any ideas on how to get started, or where to look.

Thanks, Sandy

My great grandmother was Marie or Margeret Maher
apparently from Cork County Ireland. Not sure
if she had any brothers or sisters. Hopefully this will
give you a lead!

Hey, Look in the county records office of Roscrea, Tipperary. This is where the family originated. Also, look into county Offaly. We are related to the O'Carrolls. The Mahers are of royal blood, holding the title of the Baronny of Ikkerin. Hopes this helps, but also, look into County Cork in particular, Waterford.
Cheers,
Timothy Maher

I have gone back to Ireland to visit alot of existing family members. I have a database somewhere backed up on CD, I will look through it. I was able to get the original last will and testemony for a will of my g-g-g-grandfather from 1859. In the will, he left 20 acres of land, and 50 pounds to 2 children. (this was a considerable amount then) The one thing that I learned when I was there, was that familys all get buried in one grave. There can be up to 20 people in one grave. They just keep adding more people on top of the already deceased. Makes it hard to trace back family roots..................good luck

Sandy,

I know you posted your Maher message over five years ago, hoping you'll see this...
I have Mahers who resided on Long Island, NY. They may have lived in other parts of NY as well. I have four sisters, Kathy(Kate), Mary, Annie, and Julia/Julie. The info I have is they were cousins to my g-grandfather M. Brady, who was born (1863ish) and resided on Staten Island, NY. He also had a cousin by the name of Clark.
Please let me know if any of these names, places mean anything to you.
