Dear Sharon
It is great to hear from you!! Mary Spires was the sister of my Great great Grandmother Nettie Spires Hysell.(1865-1939) My Grandmother told me they callled Mary "Aunt Loney" Mary and Nettie were the daughter of John and Mary Ellen Colwell Spires. I don't have alot of info "Loney" and John Maguires family but do have some information I would be glad to share. I just this week obtained a copy of a picture of Nettie Spires Hysell from a Aunt i9t is always neat to find pictures to go with the histories-and it is nice to find new relatives. Thank you for you reply. With your help I have been able to add another link to my family. I dont have much on Mary and John but will list what I do have. Mary Luana Spires married John B. McGuire on December 3, 1874. I have found several different listings of her name, Mary L. Luana, Loana and Lavina.
I do have a death date of a Levina Maguire on October 27, 1918. Possibly from the flu epidemic of 1918. Not sure if Lavina and Levina are the same person. McGuire as been spelt different on two occaisions. John Maguire and Luana Spires, John McGuire and Lavina Spires and J.B. McGuire and Mary L. Spires. As you can see any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are three major Spires families. One family traces to Morgan Co. The ancestor in that family was John Spires who was born in NC. in the late 1700s. Then there is the Pontiac, Illinois clan that traces back to England. I don't recall the name of the one who came over from England in about 1854. There are several Spires who trace back ro Richard O. Spires and his brother John who moved into Ohio after the War for Independance. They were mainly in Brown Co. and Meiges Co., Ohio, but have spead out westward. Then there is my family that moved up to Williamson County, Illinois after the Civil War. I have just supplied a gedcom on this family. It should be posted in the near future. I think your best bet is the Morgan County clan.

My great great great grandfather's name was John Spires and he was born in Maryland in 1797. He was married to Phoebe McCumber, originally from New York State, in Gallia County, Ohio on 2-15-1819. He had a son named William Richard Spires, who was my great great grandfather. I have no information on William Richard's birth date, or whether he had any siblings, but my John Spires would have been about the right age to have been the father of the John you're seeking information about. And, Gallia County adjoins Meigs County. I don't have copies of birth or death certificates- my information comes from my brother's research. Do you have any additional information?
