Does anyone know if there is an index for Oakwood Cemetery? Or what funeral homes were in Alma in 1870s that may have handled funerals?

I helped record the cemetery stones in 1991 in Alma and have Volume III which lists the marked stones. I can look for a specific name. I'm not sure about the funeral homes in that area in the 1870's.

Oh that would be *WONDERFUL*. I'm looking for Folts, and more specifically Lillie or Lila (Most) Folts.

Thank you so much!

Clark H. Foltz and Lilla M. Most marriage record, Vol. 2, pg. 52 dated 12 Oct 1878 is at the Jackson County Courthouse Register of Deeds.
At East Lawn Cemetery in Alma Center, Town of Alma, Jackson County are burials for Lillie, infant daughter of C. H. & L. M. Folts, died 28 Dec 1882. Next lot is J. F. Most died 17 Dec 1902, aged 66 yrs, 8 mos & 27 ds. This must be John F. Most, Lillie's father.
At Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan, Jackson County, WI there are Folts burials: Timothy folts 12 May 1850-11 Nov 1915; Ada B., daut. of T. G. & A. E. Folts d. 3 Jan 1883 aged 2 yrs & 5 mos. (scarlet fever); Hiram H., son of T. G. & A. E. 1871-1873; Infant son, d. 1 Jan 1893 aged 6 mos & 22 ds; Enos T. son of T. G. & A. E. died 12 Aug 1879. aged 3 yrs.; Addie E. Mather Folts, 7 Dec 1855-4 Apr 1963.
From the early Wisconsin Leader Newspaper dated 25 March 1887, a divorce was granted to Clark H. Folts &. Lilla. An article dated 7 Aug 1887 stated that a granddaughter named Ollie Folts of John Most died 28 July 1887 at Hurley, Wisconsin. Hurley is in Iron County, Wisconsin and possibly this is where Lilla went after the divorce? No other stones for Folts were found in any other cemeteries in Jackson County.
Hope some of this helps.

Oh wow!!!! I didn't know about the divorce. I had thought I read that she died shortly after their baby. From the looks of this though, it appears they may have had another child, if the granddaughter did indeed belong to Lilla.

Can I ask where you found the newspaper articles? Are they online somewhere? You've given me a lot to research. I can't thank you enough!

I have some indexing of early newspaper articles for Jackson County, but only with brief notes. The divorce article was in the Wisconsin Leader Newspaper for that date(25 Mar 1887) and I think if you wrote to the State Historical Society at Madison, WI, they would be able to give you a copy of the article from microfilm. I see that Timothy Folts & wife Ada Estelle Gould were living in Monroe County, WI. Go to the Monroe County Local History & Museum site and you will find Folts info. Ada's date were in error on the year of death, should be 1931 not 1963? Thought that looked bizarre. I believe Clark's parents are buried at the Big Creek Cemetery there. Clark appears to have remarried in 1888 and was in Arkansas.
