I looked at your family tree online so that I would have some dates and info to work with.

I have tried to locate/identify either James Mitchell or Margaret Edwards in the 1940 census. I also have not been able to locate Margaret or her parents in the 1930 census.

Here are some suggestions:

Get the obituary/death notice for James Mitchell. It was published in both the Kentucky Enquirer and the Kentucky Post on July 31, 1996.

Get the death certificate for James Mitchell. KY Death certificates are $6 should have his parents listed. DO NOT order through VitalChek/Ancestry. Order from here:

http://chfs.ky.gov/dph/vital/deathcert.htm

James was in the Army from 1936 to 1941. So he may have been enumerated in another state, but I have not been able to find him in 1940. His obit may list where he served.

Get the birth certificate for Patricia Ann Hall if you do not already have it. Her father's birth place may be listed. I checked both KY births and WV births, but did not find James Mitchell in 1916.

If all else fails, you may need to send for James's Application for a Social Security Number. He would have filled this out himself in about 1937. It will have his parents' names on it. However, I think it takes months to get it and costs about $27, so try the other cheaper and quicker suggestions first.

Good luck with your search.

Sharon

Survivors include sons, James Mitchell of St. Francis, and Samuel Mitchell of Clarksville, Ind.; daughters, Bonnie Case and Connie Mitchell, both of Alexandria, Alice Gonzales of Opa-Locka, Fla., Margaret Baker of Miami, Fla., and Patricia Hall of St. Francis; sisters, Osie Moore and Edna Reed, both of Buckhannon, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be there from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

So his sisters are still in W. VA according to this.

Kentucky Post, The (Covington, KY ) - June 28, 1995, pg 12A
Margaret T. Mitchell, 71, of Alexandria, died at 3:27 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, James O. Mitchell; daughters, Alice Gonzalz of Opalocka, Fla., Bonnie Case and Connie Mitchell, both of Alexandria, Patricia Hall of St. Francis and Margaret Baker of Miami, Fla.; sons, James Mitchell of St. Francis and Samuel Mitchell of Clarksville, Ind.; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Looks like Margaret might be an only child or brother's/sisters deceased before her.
This might give you a birth date range for both of them and relatives to call.

I'm not related just came across this.

Those obits that Shortie found for you are a great help.

I found James's sister Osie in Buckhannon (Upshur County), WV. Her husband's name was Carmen. However, it seems that this was a later marriage. Osie married Howard Norvell Campell in Upshur Co. in 1939. She was 20 (b. c. 1919 in Webster County). Her parents were O.C. Mitchell and Delilah Mitchell.

Go to the WV vital records site directly to find other records for this family. You will find Oliver's marriage to Delilah Dilly and probably more. Images are free

I found this family in 1920 census in Webster Co.

http://interactive.ancestry.com/6061/4389746_00495/37787775?...

His father's name was Oliver. James is listed as 2 years 11 months. Osie's name was indexed as Ora. Edna is also listed.

This should give you a good start on James's family.
