I am trying to find the names of the children (desendants) of Richard Lyon and Martha Flint. I know for a fact they had 2 daughters Tryphina/Josephina and Phoebe...but that is about the only thing I know about the family. Tryphina/Josephina (we are trying to find out her correct name) married Eli Roate (a Civil War solider with the 10th Regiment New York Artillary Unit); Phoebe marrie Daniel Reed/Reid (also Civil War solider with the same unit as Eli). Daniel and Tryphina/Josephina died in WI and Eli and Phoebe then married).

Descendants, please see my posting under William A. Flint on the Jefferson Co NY website. Another allied site is The Family of Mildred Poole of Ellisburg, NY.

Martha Flint married Richard Lyon
One of their children, Sarah Jane or Jane Sarah Lyon born 1839 and dec 1911.

Sarah Jane Lyon (b about 1839 NY) married Noble Poole, born 1831 in Jefferson Co NY, whose father was Barnabus Pool born 1793 in Rhode Island. Barnabus married, as his second wife, Mary Polly Martin born 1803 in RI.

Sarah Jane and Noble had at least four daughters:
Ellen Poole born 1859 New York
Martha Adelaide Pool born 1861 NY
Hattie A. Poole born 1864 NY and d 20 Nov 1939
Matilda Poole born 1866 (maybe in Minn?)
All four of these daughters were members of the DAR.
There were also sons in this family: on the Jefferson Co website, there is an 1850 census--the family is listed in that census.

Hattie A. Poole died 20 Nov 1939 and is buried in the Rural Cemetery, Adams, NY (you can access that info on the Northern NY in Stone site) Hattie Poole married Willard O. Newton who was born about 1858 in NY.

Barnabus Pool was born about 1793 in Rhode Island and died after 1860. He married as his first wife, Sally Dickinson, daughter of Paul Dickinson and Sally Bemis. She died in Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY. His second wife, Polly Martin was born about 1803 in Rhode Island and died 17 Dec 1859. In the 1855 census for Ellisburg, page 231, Barnabus Pool is listed as a 62 year old male farmer born in RI and had resided in Ellisburg for 52 years, so he came to Jefferson Co in about 1803.

In 1850 RICHARD LYON is in the census at age 49 a farmer, with his wife, Martha, age 45. Also listed:

In the obit of Sarah Jane Lyon Poole, it notes that she is the d/o Richard Lyon and Martha Flint Lyon. Wife of deceased Noble Poole. She was survived by 2 sisters--Mrs. Phebe Roat of Wisconsin and Charlotte McCarty of Oswego. She also had a sister, Mrs. A. P. Jenne who maybe pre-deceased her.

I am interested in your information on this family. I have some bible pages from Richard and Martha's bible. I am related by way of William, their son. you mentioned Richard's estate. (The estate of Richard Lyon, her father, of Adams NY was challenged in Jefferson Co Court in 1882 with the names G. Flint vs William Lyon and others) Do you have a copy of his will. Do you know where Richard and Martha are buried? Sarah June was born August3, 1838. The name could be Sarah Jane it is faded but the a is open like a u instead of an a. Have you gotten back any further than Richard. One page of the bible has a Patty Lyon died January 1, 1867 and the note states Wilbur your Great Grandmother. Wilbur is the son of William C. Lyon son of Richard and Martha. There is also an Olive that died in 1875 with a note that states an aunt your grandmother's sister. I am glad to see others are working on this family now. Gloria.

In reply to teleguitarman posted 3 Mar 2010--no, I do not have a copy of the will; it should be on file in the probate office at Watertown, Jeferson Co. There is a Martha A. Lyon who died 1912 at age 80 y 7m who is buried in the City of Watertown. There is a Martha H. Lyon b 1861 d 1928, wife of John, buried in the Ellisburg Cem in Jefferson Co., NY. There is a Richard Lyon b 1819 d 1895 buried in the cemetery at Theresa NY. There is an Olive Lyon d 1863 at age 70 years buried in Theresa, NY. I am not researching this family as I am not related. I posted the information on the Jefferson Co site as an act of genealogical kindness. If you go to the site: Northern NY Genealogy in Stones, you will be able to look for additional burials of that family.

"ADAM FLINT, a British soldier, was the first of that name to locate in this country"

There is a problem here as Thomas Flint came over to Virginia in 1618 and tow other Thomas and William Flint's came to Braintree and Salem/Danvers, respectively, in mid to late 1630.
