Came across your post. This BARRIER line is part of my husband's WHITE line, including COPENHAVERs. This is what I have on John and Sarah (Barrier) HAMMONS, and the bits I have on their children. From this you should be able to follow them in census records.
SARAH SALLY (BARRIER) HAMMONS, b.1830, AL, d.1889, m: JOHN HASTON "Haston" HAMMONS, b.1823, d.1862. In 1850 listed in Jackson, AL. By 1860 moved to Benton, MO and raised their family there. In 1862 Haston was killed while working in his field by Union Civil War bushwackers who came through Bentonville (a number of other neighboring men were also killed in the same way by the same group on the same day, including an uncle of Sarah's, Charles Nathan Suiter, who was married to Sarah's aunt Elizabeth (Copenhaver), a sister of Sarah's mother Mary/Mariah (Copenhaver). In 1870-80 widowed Sally resided in Alexander, Benton, MO. Sarah (Barrier) and John Hammons had children:

NANCY HAMMONS, b.abt.1847, AL. In 1870 resided with widowed mother. In 1880 resided with sister Sarah and her family in Burnet, TX.
JOHN CLEVELAND HAMMONS, b.10/7/1850, AL, d.1920. In 1870 resided with his widowed mother. In 1872 1st m: SARAH CATHERINE "Kittie" (MORGAN), b.10/2/1852, MO, d.8/19/1907, MO. In 1880 resided in Alexander, Benton, MO. In 1900 resided in Osage, Henry Co., MO. Had children. In 1917 in Benton, MO 2nd m: widow MARY MALINDA "Maggie" (ROBERTSON) (GUTHRIE), b.1865, MO. In 1910 resided in Alexander, Benton, MO. John and Kittie bired at Shawnee Cemetery, Warsaw, Benton, MO.
