PERKINS, April 03, 1853 in Campbell County, Tennessee **Is she the Margaret Perkins who married JW HAYS in 1865 Campbell County?

Karen,
Margaret Douglass indeed married Squire Perkins first.
They are my GG Grand parents. Squire is buried in the city limits of jellico, go toward Newcomb to first red light out of town, turn left at the Assembly Of God bldg, and cemetary
will be in plain view. Many are buried there. He was killed by confederate soldiers in Cherry Bottom near lake city with Simon Snyder, his brother in law, and a friend Clint Roe. His Daddy, Willam Perkins, went and brought them back to jellico and reburied them.
It is from my experience that, yes, she married a Hayes and went to Whitley County KY. That is where my Great Grandpa
Peter Perkins was raised. His first two children, Squire Jim (1880 where my name came from) and Lewis Frankin (my Grandpa) were born in Rockholds, KY east of I 75 on the first Cumberland falls exit going north. I have not found her grave however. Many of my family was back and forth from Whitley Co as that is the original settling place for them.
I'm glad you also found the name Hayes... I was always a little unknowing about it, however, still sure to some degree.
Please write if you have any questions.

Jim Perkins

Karen,
You're going to find that the Davis family is part of yours (Douglass & Perkins) also. My GG Grandpa was E.R. Davis (Elias RICHMOND) from Oswego, TN who married Margaret Perkins (Squire Perkins' sister).
That makes me blood related to the Davis and of course the Perkins before my G Grandpa and G Grandma were married. They were first cousins. It becomes a mess the farther you get in these families, however, don't think for a second all they did was marry relatives. That was an acceptable thing then and not just in the south. Also, when you look, see Harrison Roach (GGGrandpa) and David H. Roach (GGrandpa). David Roach married a Bowman after my GGrandma Carrol died and had children by her. This is on the Powell valley side of campbell co. Kelly Lynch on Davis Chapel rd. can help You. He is married to my grandma's half sister, Ruby Roach Lynch.
You may find that the Lays (Esco Lay, brother in law to my GGrandma)are related to the Penningtons from up around White Oak and on up into Claiborne Co on through to KY and VA. My GGrandma was Sarah Elizabeth Pennington married to Tom Price and sister of Maynard Pennington. Their father was George Pennington and mother was a Anna Huddleston from SC. They are buried on the road from White Oak to Duff on a hill on the left about two miles from White Oak.
Man, You're going to be related to everybody if you keep this up...

Thought you might be interested in some of the information I have on my website. At one time I felt that my Great Grandfather was part of this line but.... I discovered that Elias Douglas... Son of John Douglas and Lucinda Ball died 10 months before my GGrandfather was born even though my GGrandfather and I bear the name I am uncertain as to whether it is possible that Elias was in fact the father. However Elias had 2 other sons with my GGGrandmother Amanda Hamby. Anyway... the site is

It seems we're researching some of the same lines. From the 1850 TN fed. census and Campbell Co. TN Marriages I have put together the following:
William Douglass, b. ca 1785 NC m. Sarah b. ca 1791, about 1811. Their younger children are Matthew m. Hannah Baird, Catherine m. James Gibson, George Preston m. Lucretia Wilhite, Margaret m. Squire Perkins. Older children may be: Samuel m. Eliza Carter, Thomas Young m. Rachel Pawley, John m. Lucinda Ball, George W. m. Nancy Lay.
