My Great Grandfather married Mary Magdalina Ziegler. George had 5 sisters, (Mary "Saffert" Wersal, Anna "Saffert" Sellner, Barbara "Saffert" Fleck, Theresa "Saffert" Piehl, Elizabeth "Saffert" Rothmeir). If anyone has any information that might connect to my family, please let me know. Any info would greatly be appreciated. Thank you to anyone who can help. Josh Saffert

Hi Josh. It seems your ancestors were from surroundings of Wayer town in Domazlice area southwest Bohemia. I have in my file lot of families Rothmeier, Sellner and Saffert from this area who emigrated to Minnesota and settled down near New Ulm.
Josef Saffert born 1859 in Pfaffenberg, wife Barbara Pechtl, children: Joseph, Margaretha, Maria, Georg, Wilhelmine, Heinrich and Johann emigrated to New Ulm.
Do you need some research in Bohemian archives?
All the best. Tony.

Thanks for your response. As close as these seem to be the same family, I don't think they are. Here is the names and dates of birth (off of census records) of these individuals.
George John Saffert 27 Mar 1867
Mary Saffert 08 Mar 1864
Anna Saffert 07 Aug 1866
Barbara Saffert 06 Jun 1876
Theresa Saffert 06 Jun 1876
Elizabeth Saffert Unknown

Not confirmed but the word from older family members thought that George was born in Klies Pilson.

After speaking with distant family (Fleck), he thought that the father of these kids was Lawerance Saffert but is not 100% sure.

Thanks for any help. JOSHUA SAFFERT

Hi Josh. The palce you presented as the birth place of Georg is probably "Kreis Pilsen" = Plzen Region. It is not the town.
Pfaffenberg town is in this region in District Domazlice (before Bezirk Bischofteinitz). I mean the original birth pace of Saffert family do you need to search in this area.

All the best from Czech. Tony.

Tony- Thanks, For the offer and I am going to say YES. As of right now, no-one knows were they came from. The family didn't talk of home life in Germany (Bohemia). My Great-Grandfather George was in the Germany Military, but had a dishonerable discharge. He then came to America with a friend (stowed away on a ship), and settled to the New Ulm, Sleepy eye, Minnesota area. (This is all we know of George's past.). Any more help that you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again JOSHUA SAFFERT

P.S. George sent for Magdalina Mary Ziegler after a couple of years state side. They got married in 1899 in Minnesota. Her Father is Michael Ziegler, brothers Andrew and Wenzel, and 1 or 2 other siblings?.

P.P.S I do have dates of when others might of come, but our family is more interested in knowing were in Czek our roots are from.

Not sure if you are interested in this part of information or not. My relatives are Wersal's (obviously) and I have collected a lot of information. I do have some things on Saffert. Do you know if they have ever been also known as "seifert"s? Sometimes I question the spelling of last names. Let me know if you are still interested and I can email you with what I have. Also, another web site I have found informative is the MN death index and birth index (although not very large, but nonetheless informative!)

Hi Amy,
I would be interested in any information that you might have. I am not sure on the other spellings but have seen it spelled in census records as "Soffert and Saffort". You can email me directly at joshsaffert@yahoo.com. Thanks
