I am researching my great grandmother's family. Her name was Elizabeth Callan. She was born in County Louth, Ireland in 1877. She had(at least 3 sisters), Mary Margaret Callan, who was born in 1874; Anne, born May 20, 1866 in Dromisken, County Louth; and, Josephine, born in 1882. She also had (at least) 3 brothers, Peter, born July 15, 1871, in Dromisken, County Louth; Patrick, born in 1884; and, Thomas, born in 1880. Their parents were Peter Callan and Margaret Birch. Peter's father's name was Thomas but I don't know his mother's name. His grandparents names were Thomas Callan (born in 1796) and Catherine (born in 1800). Thomas had 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Their names were James (born in 1790), Denis (born in 1790), Catherine (born in 1792), and Mary (born in 1794). Peter's great grandparents' names were Baeg (1745-1813) and Margaret Smith. Any information regarding the Callans of County Louth would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DK

Annette, When was your grandfather born in County Louth. His marriage certificate should give you a date. I'll see what James Callan's I have that may match your grandfather James Callan.

Have some Callan lineage, but don't know if it applies.

Great great uncle Michael McGuire (b. Aug 1829) married a Mary Callan (b. Aug 1822). Her parents were Hugh Callan and Elisabeth McGrooder.

Hope this helps you flesh out things.

There is a fellow with whom I communicated who did research on the McGuire line back to this junction with my Callan group.

Do you know any more info on Mary's parents? I believe that they emigrated to Lambertville, NJ as did my great-gggfather Patrick and his wife Ann Silliery. Patrick was born about 1829 and came over 1849. He is related to a Hugh in some way but I do not know how. Maybe son or nephew.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dennis,

I have only been doing this for the past couple of weeks, so don't have much to go on yet. However, for the timeframe you are talking about, go to this link and you will probably get some info: http://www.halpenny.net/jimardee/descendants%20of%20William%...

I would be grateful for any info you could provide from your end that would help to fill in the blanks. (In the link above, my grandmother was #14)

Thanks,
Mike Abbott

Mike,
looks like the URL that you posted comes from T Rue. The McGuire married a Callan that was the daughter of Hugh Callan.
My GGGGreat Grandfather Patrick come over in 1849 and went to Lambertville presumanly because the Callans there (Hugh) were relatives. I am loking for that connection. Rue's research does not go in that direction.
Mike AW Roberts has McGuire roots on his wife's side but also no direct tie-in to the balance of the Callans there. I grew up in Trenton and right across the river in Morrisville were anohter branch of the Callans that I never knew existed. There are Charles in both branches who worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. I lost the other Charles so he may have passed on I am afraid.
I need to get up to Lambertville some day and snoop around in thhe office records.

Dennis,

Thanks for the response. Am overwhelmed with all the info that I am finding. I did get a lot from Tom Rue's site and have promised to send him updates.

I grew up in New Hope, PA and know many of the people in his posting, but he had some blank spots in my line. I suspect that Dr. Flood provided much info and that is why his line is so complete.

Just got back from a weekend soccer tourney in Memphis and have to unpack. Wanted to thank you for the input. Will keep you up to date if I find anything useful.

Regards,
Mike
