I am looking for furthur information on my family that apparently came from Heidelberg, Germany. My great-grandfather's name was Harry Henry Gundel. Harry married Anna Sorden. Harry's father was Frederick Gundel and he married Fannie Lucas.
I am having trouble finding who Frederick's parents were and also who Fannie's parents were.
If anyone has any information on these people and their ancestors, please post.
-Thanks.

Hi,

Just found out that there are Gundel’s in America and on the web. In the UK 3 brothers came over from the Black Forest in Germany in the 1930’s. 1 went to the coastal town of Grimsby and was involved with the fishing industry and the 2 other brothers settled in Nottinghamshire and went in to the coal mining industry. 1 of these miners was my Great Grandfather. Unfortunately due to my parents divorce I lost touch with the Gundel side of the family. I have been told that there is a town in Germany called Gundel’s town and that there are around 2000 people world wide with the surname Gundel. Any long lost or distant relations out there ???

Well not only they went to the United States "OF" AMERICA (America alone refers to the whole Contintent), but my grandfather made it to Costa Rica from New York. He first traveled from Ösfriesland (Leer, Aurich, Remels, Holen area) to New York in 1886, his name was Cornelius-Ludwig Gündel Ross. In the late 1800's he accepted a job with the United Fruit Company in Costa Rica and moved there. He was married to an Austrian lady named Anne-Marie who died in Costa Rica in 1915 (had no children). Then my Grandfather married my Costa Rican Grondmother (Amparo Calderón, Local Family with Spanish ancestors) and decided to have 9 children. My Father, also Cornelius, was the second child. When he was a teenager he went with Father and older broder (Hermann) to Germany and visited relatives there in 1934. After six months they returned to Costa Rica and my Grandfather died 3 years later in 1937 there. Contact with the German Family was lost for about 50 years after my Grandfather's death and in 1990 I was able to trace most of them back in Germany. Since then we keep contact and have visited them several times. We are now looking into the origin of the Gündel's somewhere in Hungary.

We are looking for the same people. My grandfather was Fred Gundel brother to your Harry. Fred was born November 20, 1892 in Sidney, Nebraska. His brothers were Edward, william , and Harry. My Fred married Ada Mae Duncan March 26, 1921. He died August 12, 1961. They had a large family.
My grandmother told me that Fred Gundel came over on a cattle boat with his brother, they had run away ages 14 and 16. They were separated in New York and he never saw him again. I found a Fredrich Gottleib Gundel, born July 17, 1871, who applied for citizenship in 1888. I also found record of marriage in Cheyenne County, Nebraska of his marriage to Fannie Lucas.
My grandmother said he was a farmer in Nebraska who sold his land and wnet to New Mexico, traded land there for land in Seliman and Wheaton, Mo.
I am thinking for our search for his parents, we will have to search German records. I am not sure where to start for Fannie Lucas. I think I will start in Nebraska. I think my grandma said they both spoke German.

Grandma Gundel was the daughter of Minnie Duncan( b. 1878-d. 1945) and was brought up by Aaron Wogoman. Minnie was d of Nancy Inman and William Duncan. William Duncan was the son of William Duncan and Nancy Chitwood. NAncy was the d of John Henry Inman and Virginia Clark. There is an Inman Compendium on Rootsweb that goes furthur back. I have just begun my research on the Gundels and Duncans. I am the dughter of Bonnie, sister to Sharon, so your Fred is my cousin. I remember him, we used to visit Grandma. Keep in touch. I will send better onfo. Sandy
