looking to find what part of Ireland my greatgrandfather came from. I know he came to US around 1863 was a farmer in Albia Iowa married Mary Egan also from Ireland both Illiterate his name was William (Heyland) spelled this way at time of 1880 census but buried under name of William Helean also in area was a James Heyland . William Maary Egan had 11 or 12 children with various spellings of Heyland, Heeland,Hyland Heiland, My grandfather William Heyland/Heelan immigrated to chicago around 1920 with various cousins who changed their spelling to Heelan the various spellings account for the inability to read or write. James Heyland is alos buried under the name of James Helean in St. Marys cemetary in Monroe county Iowa. My father is James Thomas Heelan/Heyland born Albia Iowa 1908 I am looking for his brother or children his name also is William Heelan born around 1906 or1905 to William Heelan and Nellie (Ellen)Kelley /Kiely I am sure that the Joseph Thomas Helean of NY with 2 brothers named William James In Iowa would be my Great Uncle. I woud appreciate hearing from anyone with info. on this part of the Heelan family.

Well, I'm not sure if this will be of help to you but perhaps.. There arent that many Heeland/Heelons around so Im sure it fits somewhere? Anyway, my mother was a Heelon.. from what Ive heard the Heeland name was changed years back to Heelon so it sounds like we are in the same boat. Now her father was a John Heelon.. I havent gone far back enough to find out what his parents names were but im sure it wont be too hard to find out since I am in touch with some of the Heelons..my grandfathers(paased on) , brothers(also passed on) wife(widow) might have some info on this. She is old but Im sure I can find out. Otherwise there might be something in the records here although I should have to get a membership (regular one) for that. Tellme more , email me about your history? Thanks alot Melaney West daighter of a Heelon. Laurie Elaine Heelon is my mothers maiden name in case that helps too.

Your William Benedict Helean(also sp Heyland and Heelan)b4/13/1880 is one of 9 children I have found. Father William Heyland(helean)b 1843 in county Cork Ireland. Had 2 brothers Thomas Peter b10/18/1837 in Waterford, and James b 5/18/1845. All 3 boys were sons of Thomas Helean and Catherine Walsh. There is a web site at MyFamily.com that has pics of quite a bit of this family, as well as others in family. I will ask someone to invite you to this site. John

cmtl3223 your greatgrandfather Leo Heyland and my grandfather William Heyland were brothers. Leo Heyland died in the flu epidemic of 1919 . Some Heylands moved to Chicago and changed the spelling to Heelan one of whom was my grandfather William Heyland. I know there is a grandson of Leo Heyland in the messages boards for this family. If you like I can email you his email address. you can email me at tjtfam@aol.com
