The early history of my family of Merchants appears to begin in Maryland, then Virginia and then to Ohio. Is this the line you're looking for?

Not sure about the line before N.C. in 1750. I have William, Mary and Elizabeth documented in N. C. and later, in Ga. John, Isaac, Joseph and Jacob. I can not make a connection past N.C. although I find the name. They could have come from Va. via England or they could have come from Va., Md. and Mass. There seems to be more than one line but it could be branches. There were Marchants in Mass in the 1600's. Do you have that info? I can't connect to mine but it may fit later. Does any of this seem familiar to you? Thanks, Pat

Haven't found any info on my family living in N.C. ,although the names you mention (John, Isaac, Joseph and Jacob) are found in
my tree. Who were their parents and when were they born?

I think everyone has these names at that time but it could be a link so here goes. All of these are spelled Merchant except for William who is Marchant. All occured in Duplin Co. N.C. Wm., 1750. John, 1770. Jacob,1776. John , 1782 with witnesses Elizabeth and Sarah Merchant. They next appear in Ga. in 1787. Please send any info you have before 1782in any state. At least we may be able to rule out a relation or maybe siblings who went seperate ways. I have the line frome 1790 in Ga. Thanks, pat
