This is a general announcement to all that are doing research on the Otterbein name. I currently have a data base with over 2000 Otterbeins and will gladly give any information I have to help with your research. Also, I want to continue this data base so if you have any geneology information, especially very old Otterbein geneology, please E-mail me at NGOTTER@aol.com. thanks

I am the maternal great granddaughter of Catherine Mary Otterbein, b 1859, UK. She had brother Jacob William (b 1857), Brother Ernest (1861) and sister Alice Maude Mary.Their parents were George Jacob Otterbein and Mary Catherine. The family is originally supposed to have come from teh Black Forest in Germany and a village called St Cloud (?) but I have drawn a blank with finding records or any living relatives in south east England. Any informatin gratefully received.

Carole,

I checked my data base and the information is a copy of what you gave me. My info came from the International Geneological Index from the Mormon Library.

Although it is possible that this Otterbein family came from the Black Forest area, especially since it was a fairly late time period, most Otterbeins come from an area just Northeast of Frankfurt. There are a couple of towns including Bad Salzsclirf, Angersbach and Lauterbach; no doubt this family is from the same region, but maybe from earlier generations. I wish I could be of more help. I can remember inputting the data thinking how unusual it was for this german family to end up in England. If you do discover any records please keep me on your mailing list. If you can make a tie back to Germany, I may be able to help you from that point since I have a fairly extensive database of old Otterbein families.

Take care,

Jerry Otterbein

Surnames: Otterbein
Gerry

A follow-up on information that I gave in my posting in May.My great-grandfather (George Jacob) was born in Germany in 1833, emigrated to London probably in the early 1850s - married in 1855 and lived and worked as a baker in Drury Lane in London until his death in 1896. Do you have any access to records that may trace his german origins?

John Calder has assisted me to find one of George Jacob's grandson's, who entered the US in 1913 via Ellice Island - he was Frederick William, born in London in 1885.I cannot find any records in the US Social Security Index on CD Rom. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Regards

Carole
