Dear Glenn,

I don't have much to offer in answer to your inquiry. However, I have roots from Gruol, Hohenzollern, Prussia and also from nearby Binsdorf. We may have some overlap somewhere.

When my 2nd great-grandparents (Rheinhard MÜNZER and Marianna PFISTER) emigrated here, they were close with a RAIBLE family (Marcus RAIBLE from Binsdorf and Rosina ZIRKEL from Erlaheim, and their children Daniel, Martin, Johannes, Maximilian, Genovieve, Joseph, Phillipine, Gottlieb). Maximilian, Martin, and Genovieve RAIBLE were baptismal sponsors for many of their children. I think these RAIBLEs may be related to me through a KNUPFER line, but I haven't done the research yet. I know these RAIBLEs lived in Lawrenceville in 1880, and possibly in Millvale after that.

These same 2nd great grandparents were married here in Pittsburgh in 1867, 9 days after arriving in NYC from Gruol. The witnesses to their marriage were Phillip BISSINGER and Bernhardina PFISTER (who was the bride's sister). Unfortunately, I don't know more about this Phillip BISSINGER. Two men with that name turn up on the 1880 census index, one in Buffalo and one in Berks county, PA. Either one could fit the bill, or neither.

Surnames: BISSINGER, BISINGER
Dear Glenn,

Wow... there's some sort of connection here. Maybe not blood related but I think our ancestors certainly knew each other.

Binsdorf and Trillfingen are all in the vicinity of Gruol. In fact, BInsdorf is the next village south of Gruol. (I have ancestors from Gruol and one married a woman from Binsdorf.)

I'll bet the Philip BISINGER who witnessed your Barbara BISINGER's marriage is the same Philip BISSINGER who witnessed my great-great grandparents' marriage on 15 Dec 1867 in Pittsburgh. (I received the double "S" spelling from the Diocese of Pittsburgh when they researched the marriage, but I'm sure it's immaterial.)

I wonder if the Philip BISINGER who witnessed the marriage of John BISINGER and Bernhardine RAIBLE in Germany is the same Philip who witnessed the marriage of their daughter Barbara in the USA?

Sorry again about the late response. I will have to check with St. Peters church on the Nort Side of Pittsburgh because they have all the records from St. Mary's. I will ask them about Barbara Bissinger. Many things going on in my life right now and do this asap.
Glenn.

Hello Glenn,
do you have John's parent's names? I have a couple of Raibles in my tree. One is Johannes Raible, 26.12.1827.
I also have a lot of Stehle from Binsdorf. Do you have parent's names from Valentin?
Thanks in advance. Monika
