Does anyone know if all of the people with the last name Slemp are related? I asked my grandpa, Jack Slemp (now past away), if he knew very much about our family. He couldn't tell me much. He said since the Slemp name is so unusual, he thought that we were all related. I also wanted to know what the name Slemp means. Any info. would be helpful.

Hi Amanda, I thought for a long time there were very few people with this name. On the contrary, there appear to be a whole lot of people with this last name, and as you will discover a lot of names repeated. Check out my message as of 6/5/00. Reference Mr. William G. Mullins Sr. message on this board dated 7/10/00 where he has posted a lineage on the USGENWEB. I was given a paper copy of lineage of who married who and if you email me I will talk about it. I glanced through looking for a Jack Slemp. What was his birth date? Was he born with Jack as the first name. What is the name of his wife? The dates of their death is important too. Since my grandfather's name was William Slemp, there are several with this name.

Slemp is a very common name in the South. I've found so many and none are related. There is an interesting family tree that traces a branch of the Slemps (My branch) back to a person named Zangmeister in 1500. My father was Bascom S.Slemp ,son of David Lester Slemp ,(which I thought was a very unusual name..until I found five of them...none of which is my father, who I am looking for.) Sorry, but I can't remember the website for Zangmeister but you can find if thru ancestry.com or familytree.com. E-Mail the site's webmaster & he will give you some great history on the Slemp name.

Hi,
would you ask your Mom if she knew or has heard of James Valentine Slemp who married Sophia McGinnis in Rockport Missouri. I am looking for a picture of them for my 81 year old Aunt. They are her grandparents and we all kinds of pictures of my Grandmother's cousin but no pictures of her parents. As many pictures that they took we are certain that someone somewhere has a picture of James & Sophia.
Would also be interested in any information that you or your mom could give us about the Slemp family. There is a Slemp book, do you know where I can see one?
