Would anyone care to explain why a family would inscribe the tombstone of a 17 year old girl with the following inscription:
Jer 3:24
For shame hath devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds; their sons and their daughters.

All of this had been taken away, because of their unfaithfulness
to God.
The parents were referring to themselves...all that they had worked for (daughter) had been taken away. maybe she was an only child and the only one they could ever have and she was taken away for their sins

Yes, thank you. I had a feeling it was something like that. Both her parents died before her, but the census records have her living with an older brother, so I guess your reasoning is the same. Thanks again...Diane
