Mahren, Moravia

Was there such a village or town in Moravia in the early 1900's? It is shown as the birthplace of Frank (Frantisek) Kopriva who emigrated to the USA in 1912. There is a possibility that the spelling is incorrect but that is all I have to go on. Any help will be appreciated. Pat Kopriva pkopriva@aol.com

Unfortunately Mahren means Moravia.

The Czech Republic's phone book is at
http://phone.quick.cz and the name KOPRIVA lists in Zlinsky kraj in the town of Zlin, Lesna and few others. That is the only place I looked.

The Ellis Island website is listing 92 Koprivas as passing thru that port to America.

There are several towns that start with the name Morav... like Moravec, Moravska .., Moravsko.
You will need to locate a name of a town in order to further your research.

http://mapy.atlas.cz for location of a town
http://mesta.obce.cz for information on some towns

Is Frantisek's (Frank) manifest on the Ellis Island as I do not see a Frantisek arriving in 1912.

He did not come through Ellis Island. He came through Galveston. It is just we have no info on him. I picked the word Mahren up off the US census. I think his father's name was Frank Alexander Kopriva. We have a picture of him in his military uniform. That is about all we have on him.

It is important to locate a town of birth for him.
Was he naturalized citizen or did he have social security numbers? Those two papers should provide that information.

Ancestry World Tree is showing 202 entries for Kopriva.

Mährens or Mahrens (without the umlaut) is the German name for Moravia.
