Search function - collateral lines?

When I search my at-dna matches for a specific surname, such as "Jordan", I get a list of matches who also have that surname in their tree. But sometimes when I look at their dna page I don't see the name in their list of surnames or in the family tree. I wonder if the "Jordan" is in a collateral line, or farther back than the ten generations shown on the match page. Has anyone figured this out?

I am guessing that you originally posted this on the autosomal DNA Message board and it got moved to Member Trees Board.
Recommend you try to repost on the DNA board but put the phrase "autosomal DNA" in the subject line. Seems the Admin does not read the whole message for context.
Good luck.

They can definitely be further back in the tree than the ten generations show. Since my family has been in the US a long time, I get that a lot.
