Yes all we can know is that it is a patronymic name.

Andersen is a common name in Denmark. A Norwegian family might spell the name AnderSON, and a Danish family might be more likely to use AnderSEN, but there was no firm rule.

"Anders" as a first name in the USA would likely be Andrew.
