I have an Isaac Gross born 19 Nov 1585 in Kelsagh, Suffolk, England and died May 1649 in Boston, Massachusetts. My notes say: Came to Boston frm Cornwall.Adm. 1st Church,Boston,17Apr 1636. In 1635 listed as "alotment of 50acres. 1636 rcd grant of land at Muddy River. He was disaimed 20 Nov 1637 & dismissed 6Jan 1638. Went to NH & became leading figure. Was 1st Ruler & undoubtedly qualified himself by taking Elder's Oath. Retd Boston & had lg estate on the present Federal Hill, State St. & North End. Had title of "Mr" denoting a man of consequence. Left one of largest estates of his time. Will, proved in Boston 5 June 1649. Son Edmund executor.

Nathaniel Philbrick in "Mayflower" wrote: "Up until 1630, Plymouth was the only significant English settlement in the region. That year, an armada of seventeen ships arrived off the New England coast. In a matter of months, approximately a thousand English men, women, and children -- more than three times the entire population of Plymouth -- had been delivered to the vicinity of Boston." In his endnotes he credits his information on "the great migration to David Hackett Fischer's "Albion's Seed: Four British Folkways in America" and Karen Kupperman's "Settling with the Indians".

His son, Edmund Gross was born 16 May 1613 in “England” and died 3 May 1655 in Boston. My notes say: Proprietor in Boston as early as 1639; admitted to Boston Church 22 March 1645 with wife. His will proved 3 May 1665 he had 8 children born in Boston. Found Vo l4, Sec V, III, pg 210, N.E His Vol II. Seafaring Man/Property Owner

My line is through his brother, Clement Gross, born 18 Feb 1616 in “England” and died after 1691 in Boston, Suffolk, Mass. My notes say: came to colonies with father before 1635, settled in Boston & still living in 10 Oct 1683. 1685 licensed Inn-holder and renewed every yr up to & including 1678.

My line continues as they moved to Cortland, Marathon County, New York to Elmira, Stark County, Illinois, and Burden, Cowley County, Kansas and then to Texas.

Somehow we are related.
My family resided in Ipswitch, Ma. and also Boston back in the 1600 's. The names of Clement, Edmond, and Issac continue to thread their way through our family history. Much of what you have is prior to the times that my uncle found in his research of over 30 years.
Apparently, my family of Gross's came from Massachustts, into Virginia and then into Kentucky. I would be interested in more information and sharing notes qand further information.

Julie- Thank you for the information. Most of these names do not cross-over into the information that I have. I think perhaps they are from the Clement Gross side of the family. I believe that my side comes from the Edmond Gross lineage.
Where did this group settle?

Let me do some checking and get back to you. My information has my family as coming from Massachustts to Virginia (Washington County or then known as Fincastle Co., Va.) and then into Kentucky. I think we come trogether all of us in the Massachustts area. My family lived in Ipswitch and Boston according to the information that my family collected.
