This is my first time on this site and I am at the beginning of my family history journey with little information to start with, but my grandfather, Marvin Underwood was supposed to be 1/2 Cherokee, born in the western region of NC before moving to Hanover, PA. This is according to one of my deceased uncles, Robert Underwood. I hope this information is helpful, if only to confirm there were Underwoods who were Cherokees. Apparently, acc to the same uncle, there is another family line of Underwoods totally unrelated to those containing Cherokee Indian heritage. I will keep your address for the day when I find out more so I can pass it along.

Look at the Dawes Listings and you will find a LUCINDA and an ELLA. I believe Lucinda is Cherokee.

MY GREAT GRANDFATHER BORN IN INDIANA MOVED TO CLAY COUNTY ARK. MARRIED SARAH. THEY EVENTUALLY MOVED TO ASHLEY COUNTY ARKANSAS CROSSETT. HE MARRIED A SECOND TIME TO LOTTIE.

HE WAS BURIED IN CROSSETT, ARK. IN 1932.. IN 1957 A GREAT FLOOD CAME AND UPROOTED THE BODIES IN THE CEMETERY. MOST WERE PUT BACK. THIS IS WHERE THE CHEORKEE TRIBES LIVED ON THE RIVER THERE.
