Hi, my name is Lisa and I am starting a research for my family. All I know is my grandmothers name is Hilma Rogers. Her maiden name was Koehn. I know she has a brother that lived in Greensburg, Kansas. His name is Robert, he is a mennonite and was married to Lois(?). I also know that my grandmothers parents came over from Germany (not sure the year or the ship). Can someone help me go back further. Thanks.

Hi Lisa,

It is probably best to start with a few general sites.

Resources for German Genealogy on the Internet:
www.germanroots.com

-and-

Introduction and Links to Resources:
http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/naturalization/

Also,

www.familysearch.org

When posting a message it is best to give further details such as ages, birth and death dates. If not known, then an approximate year would be good. This will especially be true for a common surname of Rogers. You might find in your research that Koehn will be spelled Cohen or Kohn.

Best of luck!

Kathleen

Lisa,

I found a Hilma J. Koehn in the 1930 census. She is 9 yrs old, so she'd be born about 1921. Among several siblings there is a Robert L. aged 7. They are living in Ursula Twp, Kiowa Co., Kansas. Parents are John P. and Lygia Koehn. He's 39 and she's 30 both born in Kansas. But both their parents were born in Prussia-Warsaw. I can check the other census' if you would like to see if we can get John's parents names.

Kind regards,
Shanan
