Looking for information on how to search Netherlands BDM records

Hi there!
To whomever can help!
I am trying to track down an elusive ancestor who came to Australia in around 1855.
Cornelius Charles Cullens married in 1856 in a small town called Beechworth in Victoria Australia. He lists his town of birth as Rotterdam Holland. His father is listed as Daniel Cullens (a Ships Captain) and his mother is listed as Cornelia Cullens nee Blaghurst (spelling may not be quite right as it is difficult to read.)
I suspect they came to Australia just as the gold rush commenced in Victoria. I have not found his or her name on any Ships passenger lists as yet. I am trying to find either a birth record for Cornelius or a marriage record for Daniel and Cornelia. On the Marriage certificate for Cornelius he lists his age as 27, which means he may have been born somewhere between 1827-1830. I am guessing the marriage recording for Daniel may be in the 1825-1830 period.

Dear wildfiremiss,

Not typical Dutch names, you're looking for! Anyway, it's a good idea to visit the site of the municipal archives of Rotterdam (http://www.gemeentearchief.rotterdam.nl) or http://www.digitalestamboom.nl, which is a collection of indexes of the municipal archives. Another index is http://www.genlias.nl.

On the Rotterdam site I found a reference to
Rotterdam, marriage record, 19 Jan 1870, nr. 15 (A0009v)
Daniël Cullens, born in Rotterdam, 51 years old, son of Daniël Cullens and Neeltje Blijgeest, marries
Petronella Heessels, born in Oisterwijk, 49 years old, daughter of Jacobus Heessels and Cornelia Lesius.

If I stretch my imagination almost to breaking point, I can imagine that Blaghurst = Blijgeest. Neeltje is a common short for of Cornelia.

The Cullen - Blijgeest marriage was also found:

Rotterdam, 29 Nov 1815, nr. C72
Dennis Cullen, 20 years old, born in Rotterdam, son of Thomas Cullen and Jane Bucly, marries
Neeltje Blijgeest, born in Rotterdam, 27 years old, daughter of Cornelis Blijgeest and Cornelia Vermeulen.

It would be even better if Cornelis Cullens's birth would have shown up in the index, but since his father was sailing on a ship (and probably his wife lived on the ship, with him), Cornelis could have been born anywhere.

If you look up the real records, they'll probably give more information, like the profession of the bride and groom, whether their parents are still alive, etc.

Good luck!

Kind regards,

On that site, you will also find the birth record of Daniel (the son) in 1818, but

Hello,

Daniel married in Rotterdam Nov. 29. 1815 as Dennis Cullen, son of Thomas
Cullen and Jane Bucly. You can see the scan on
www.gemeentearchief.rotterdam. Thomas was born in Rotterdam on Jan. 6. 1795.
His parents lived in the Hoogstraat. He was baptized in the Englisch Presbyterian Church in Rotterdam. Thomas left Rotterdam around 1801 for America and the family or his friends didn't get letters from him so they don't know if he is still alive (1815). Neeltjes father Cornelis left Rotterdam around 1795 and his family and friends also don't know where he is!
Jansje Collens (died as Kuling), born July 27. 1816, died Rotterdam Dec. 16. 817
Cornelis Collens, born Rotterdam April 6. 1821, son of Daniel and Neeltje Blijgeest.
Thomas Collens, born Rotterdam Feb. 3. 1823
Johannes Collens, born Rotterdam Aug. 8. 1825
Willem Collens, born Rotterdam Jan. 21. 1829, died Nov. 22. 1830
Thomas Cullin from London married Jane Bookless in Rotterdam Feb. 9. 1790 (English Episcopal Church).

Regards, Freddy

After the answers of Lars and Freddy I looked on familysearch for the birth record of Cornelis Collens. As starting point I use http://genver.nl/fs/fsindex.htm This is an index in dutch.
Rotterdam is in Zuid-Holland So click on ZH and search for Rotterdam. Next click on 988 Reeksen. This brings you to http://genver.nl/fs/zh/0599.htm There I searched for Geboorten 1821 and found
6582198 Geboorten 1820-1821 v/a 10 jul t/m 23 jun; index Geboorten 1821 [498 img] and clicked on the link The birtt record is on https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/show#uri=https%3A/... bottom left. The father and the 2 witnesses are not able to sign. For easy find a tiny url

Are you able to help me? I am having trouble translating records to english, i am trying to help my partner trace his family tree. I am looking for information on Johannes Rikkerink born about 1943 in Holland and then immigrated to Australia around 1960. His nickname was Jack/Jacob possibly as well.
