Would anyone know anything about this man? He is the son
of my twice-great grandmother Elizabeth (Whited) Bracken,
father unknown. He was living as late as 1910 in Susquehanna Twp., Cambria County, PA at which time he was unmarried and living with his mother.

I'd be very happy to share information about this family.
Thanks in advance.

Hi George,

It's great to hear from you. I do have some additional information to share. I tried to send you an email at Ancestry's address of record (the nb.net one) but it bounced. If you could you let me know a working email address I can send you some more info.

Best regards,

My name is Hazel (Bracken) Shea. My father Frederick Dean Bracken was part of this family. He has passed away but you may reach my sister Patricia (Bracken) Baird at PO Box 117 Merino, CO 80741. She is also on myspace. She has the books of all our family history. So anything that you would like to know she has.

Hope this helps, Hazel

Hi George,

Thanks! Yes, this is definitely her obituary:

Indiana Weekly Messenger (Indiana, PA), Thursday, 14 Aug 1924, page 4, col. 2 (image 6 on Ancestry):

RECENT DEATHS

Mrs. Elizabeth Charity Bracken

Mrs. Elizabeth Charity Bracken died at North Barnesboro last Monday after a prolonged illness. She was born in Green township, Indiana county, November 16, 1840 and was the daughter of Edward and Rachel Whited. In 1869 [sic] she was united in marriage to Nathan R. Bracken, who was killed in the Civil War in the official capacity of captain [sic]. The deceased is survived by her daughter, Mrs. D. A. Garman and sons, W. B. Bracken, of Barnesboro and A. F. Bracken, of Leechburg.

There are some errors in this obituary: she married in 1859, not 1869 (which would have been after the Civil War ended), and Nathan Bracken was a sergeant, not a captain. The information about her parents is correct: her father was Edward Tyler Whited (1806-1876) and her mother was Rachel Matilda Anderson (1811-1897).

Thanks again,

--Eric Bracken
