Hi,

Do you know the birthplace or name of province/region were she was born?
The original Dutch name will have been Ten Oever, a common name, in America ''Ten'' was often written to the rest of the name, so Tenoever.
John is in Dutch Jan or Johannes.

Until now I could'nt find them,
Jettie

Unfortunately, I do not know where she was born other than the Netherlands. All records that I have state birth place as Holland or Netherlands.

Do you reside in the Netherlands or elsewhere?

I had the same questions as Jettie. I also like to know whether she was alone at her arrival? Did she travel with other persons?
I am born and living in Amsterdam. She is not in the birth registry here.
Most emigrants come from a small gemeente at the countryside. Site www.genver.nl has a list of places in the 12 states of the Netherlands plus pointers to the records at Family Search. For most places there are 10-year indexes for birthes for the period 1863-1872. Birthes are usually registered within 5 days form the birth. There are currently 1397 places listed and that is a bit much. You need to search under the O of Oever ten. Some states have their birthes indexed on https://www.wiewaswie.nl/

I find there:
Achternaam Voornaam Plaats Datum
Oever, ten Joanna Maastricht 01-04-1865
Oever, ten Hendricus Maastricht 13-05-1865
Oever, ten Willem Hoogeveen 11-04-1865
Oever, ten Rensje Meppel 27-10-1865

So these 3 places are not needed. So you probably do not need Drente and Limburg in the research.

I forgot to mention that some states and some places have their own database.
She is not on www.allegroningers.nl and also not on www.allefriezen.nl
She is not on http://www.historischcentrumoverijssel.nl/hcoroot/hoofdnavig...

She is not on http://www.zeeuwengezocht.nl/en/
Maybe in Flevoland, Gelderland, Utrecht, Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland or Noord-Brabant.

You state Cecelia and ERnst married........
A quick search shows they had sons August and Albert. There may be more children. Realize you state her father is John per her death certificate.
Did she have a son John/Jan ?? If not it is possible the death certificate is wrong.

Many dutch families name their first son after the grandfather of the fatherside and the second son after the mothers grandfather fatherside. The only son of John is Albert. The second son of Cecilia is also Albert.

The following are the children of Cecelia & Ernst Hertzenberg:
Harry Henry Hertzenberg b. 05 Jan 1892
Herman Frank Hertzenberg b. 19 Jun 1894
Unknown Infant Hertzenberg b. Bet. 1895–1898
Albert John Hertsenberg b. 31 Dec 1899 (changed the surname spelling around 1918)
Alma Elizabeth Hertzenberg b.03 Mar 1904
Ernst Hertzenberg b 27 Apr 1907

Yes, the death certificate could be wrong. Most of the information on the death certificate comes from the informant, who may or may not have correct information. I have thought for some time that the father listed on Cecelia's death certificate was actually her brother. The informant was Ernst Hertzenberg. I assumed this was her husband and not her son. He was 72 years at the time of her death and may have given incorrect information.

Please point me to the record that you located that identifies John H Tenoever as Cecelia's brother. I have though that they were siblings but have never found any documents that would prove the fact. They both do have listed on Census forms that the year of immigration was 1881 but that alone is not reliable proof they are siblings.

There are many Tenoever's buried at St Joseph Old Cemetery. It is one of the most popular Catholic cemetaries along with St Mary's Cemetery in Hamilton County, Ohio.
