Johan Haas (Born Jan 1840)

Surnames: Haas
I have tracked my Great Great Grandfather back to Semeschitz or the near area. His father was listed as Anton and his mother as Katharina. He had a cousin named J W Müller who was from Teinitz and had a furniture factory in Vienna later in life (1890's) Johan (John) Haas moved to Milwaukee, WI in the 1860's and died there in the 1890's.

Where is the best place to start researching this?

Thanks in advance.

Chad

The best place to start would be the church records.

Is it possible that the Teinitz is being refered to in short for Bischofteinitz?

You're welcome.
Post on all the boards that apply to your research ie. surnames and locations. A wider exposure should bring out more help and even distant relatives.

Based on the birth date, there were likely notices in the local German papers for your John Haas, married to a Louise?

Hi Chad.
Anton Kaas from Semosice owned house number 25. He married twice. In first marriage with Regina Masal (Smasal) had 3 children - Johann (3.10.1827), Katharina (1830) and Lorenz (1832, +). Regina died 22nd Mar 1832. Anton married in same year to Katharina Singer. I know 4 children from this marriage - Margaretha (1833), Anna (1834), Wenzl (1836) and Josef (29.4.1839). After Anton's death (18th Feb 1852) inherited the house # 25 Johann Kaas - oldest son. He took it over 15th Oct 1858 to his sister Katharina married Petrasek and his next live story is not known.
Family Kaas in Semosice lived still 1646 there.
All the best.
Tony.

Hi Chad.
It is from 2 sources:
1/ Parish registers of Semosice.
2/ Book: Stich Karl: Heimat in Böhmen. Semeschitz - Kreis Bischofteinitz, Regensburg 1988.

I did some research for distant relative family Haas living in Stankov town in this time.

All the best. Tony.
