I am looking for my grandmother Katherina's maiden name and any other history such as parents.

Nicholas Krieg (1819 – 1880) married Katherina. They had four boys: Frederick (1832 – 1899), Eugene Joseph (1841 – 1899), Henry (1848 – 1905) and Frank (1849 – 1883). They migrated to the US on July 1844 on the ship Familian and may have first settled in Illinois, later they would reside in Winona Minnesota. Nicholas was a stonecutter & his spouse a homemaker. Katherina (records show Catherine) was born about 1812 in Bohemia and died 22 Oct 1899 in Winona, Minnesota.

Thank You

Son Frederick was born when Nicholas was 13?! Are you certain?

The Winona Newspaper Project will probably be of help to you, although perhaps not for determining Katherina's maiden name. A quick search brought up the obituary for Nicholas in 1880.

It works best to do an advanced search: put in Krieg, "All Clippings", "Search in all Publications", and sort by date ascending.

The website usually loads very slowly, so be patient.

Good luck,

The ancestors's arrival manifest does not provide you with a place of birth or last residence? Might be easier or helpful if you had a place of birth. The children, if born in US, their church baptismal record does not provide you wiht their mother's maiden name and a place of birth?
