I am trying to research my family genealogy for Grzegorczyk, I believe they came to America in the late 1800's. I have them traced to 1900 living in Michigan. My ggfathers name was Micheal, his wife was Katherine??. I know they had a least one son named Francis. The last name was changed to Gregory in the 1900's. Francis was married to Irene Bradke (who I am also researching, Bradke is from Germany, John was Irenes gfather and he was married to Mary Zalewski).

In 1920 Ladislaus Gregorczyk shared a house with Joseph Durakiewicz. I believe they are first cousins. I have a photo of unidentified persons from Krosno. It was my grandmother's Frances Walasz (nee' Durakiewicz).

I have found my grandfather, Wojciech Guzik, b. 4/15/1886 in Glowienka, Austria (later Poland). He arrived into NYC aboard the SS Barcelona on 11/24/1901. He was known as Albert George or George. He settled in Utica, NY and married Kunegunda Buras.

I am searching for any information on him. Who were his siblings? Who were his parents? I have had little luck in my search.

I did receive a naturalization application for a Frank Guzik who was born in Glowienka on 8/10/1894 and a John Guzik same birthplace born 3/21/1877.

Any assistance would be great! Thanks

Thanks for your quick response. I don't see a match...but who knows?! They all must be related in some fashion. I just wish I could find out more about gramps.

My Guzik family has been very quiet about their history. My Dad and his siblings (13 of them) never saw their uncles. It was told to me they came over to the US before Wojecich did. One of my aunts told me the Guzik's in Poland were wealthy land owners and had horses. Another aunt tells me somewhere in the family is Jewish, but the Guzik's have been all devout Catholics. I just don't get it! As you can see I am very frustrated with it.

What kind of luck have you had finding records in Glowienka? My next move is to send for gramps birth certificate.

Thanks in advance for all your help! julie

We have several GUZIKs born in Glowienka. My wife's g-g-grandparents, Andreas and Anna JAGELA GUZIK were born there sometime before 1862. They had at least two children, both of whom came to America. Mary Ann GUZIK GRZEGORCZYK was born 1878 and wound up in Johnstown, PA and Francis was born 1891 and wound up in Chicopee, MA. Mary Ann probably came to America just before 1901.

Another line that we know we are connected to starts with Josef and Anna GUZIK, born sometime before 1875 who had at least two children, one of whom came to America. Helena GUZIK LUZAK stayed in the Krosno area. Andrew GUZIK was born 1891 and wound up in Lewiston, NY.

We think that Andreas and Josef were probably brothers but have not gotten to the Polish church records to confirm that.
