I too am a Gerstner descendant from Pittsburgh and have been doing a lot of searching. My great grandmother was Theresia Gerstner Mares of the Troy Hill/Mt. Troy section of the North Side. She is buried at Most Holy name cemetary (1892-1987). I have no other information on her past as she was raised in an orphanage there. I was told that she had a sister and a couple of brothers. The sister married someone with the name of Lache.
There are eight different gravesites at Most Holy Name with the name of Gerstner. One was Anna T., wife of Louis (1894-1976). Another was Frank A. (1898-1977) - wife Helen. There's some more if you're interested, including a soldier 1861 - Peter.

Yes I would be interested in any names you could find. My Grandfather's name was John Frank Gerstner or just Frank Gerstner. His wife's name was Rosine Hopf Gerstner. They were born around 1861-62 in Germany. They were naturalized around 1881 and married in 1882 in Pittsburgh PA. Any names my apply from that area. Thanks Susan

Thanks. The Frank A Gerstner 1898 looks like a possibility. I'm also looking for an August Gerstner born around 1889, and a George Gerstner born around 1886. These men were born in Pittsburgh to Frank and Rosine Gerstner. I need death dates and any other info available.

My pleasure. People have given me so much information on my mother's side it's unbelievable. This is my dad's side but now I feel like I'm contributing. I'll look again one day when I go back as I am just as interested about the Gerstners. It's definately on my list of things to do...and I'll try some other stuff.

If you have time maybe you could also fill me in on Pittsburgh itself. I found an address that says Liberty Avenue 16th Ward. Is that the same as street? I recieved the copy of my Grandmother's Death certificate. It says Saint Mary's Cemetary. Yet I can't find a Saint Mary's Cemetary in Pittsburgh. I Just have a lot of questions, and I hope I can go there and see where my family lived. But until then thanks for your help. We may end up being related.

The city of Pittsburgh is divided into Wards, ie:16th...I don't live in the city but I'm pretty sure that their only used these days as political boundaries. Liberty Avenue is one of the main streets in downtown and extends out toward the Lawrence ville section of the city. St. Mary's cemetary is just north of the city line in Reserve Township along Mt. Troy Road. The North Side of Pittsburgh and Reserve are exactly where the entire side of my Dad's family is from. No luck on August or George yet, but I think I have Frank Sr.'s address in 1890.
