Hi! Have been trying to trace my family for some time. Have been able to go bact to the 1760's to MD and John Macklem. I have always been under the impression that we were Scots. My mother was sure that we of the Clan Campbell, but two years ago the name Macklem appeared as a sept of the Clan Lamont. Any information out there? Thanks.

Hi David, I have just branched out to the Macklem name. I have a bible and pictures referring to MACKLEM's, Andrew, John, Loretta, Mary S. Andrew, Jr. I also have the original marriage cert. of Andrew Macklem to Mary Shakespeare 9 Jan 1862 in Newcastle Co., Del. Could this be a part of your line or could you point me into the right direction? I came into poss. of bible pics. by way of (I think) my great-great grandfather CLOUD, Wm. H. handed down. His son William Ella Cloud is noted as well as DEEVER, Ella Phebe (she is my gggrand-mother). I think the connection is a MACKLEM-DEEVER line. Thanks for any help, Kathy

Kathy--Andrew Macklem who married Jane Shakespeare in 1862 was the son of Michael Macklem who is the son of the John, who we are looking for information on. Andrew's father, Michael, married Elizabeth Thompson. We have the full listing of John and Jane Montgomery's children and their children. We can fax or mail a copy to you. If you find more information about John and Jane Macklem, birthdates, marriage, death etc. and/or information on another of John's sons, Robert--the direct relative of ours, we would be appreciative. This is exciting!!

David - Could you give birth dates for John, Andrew and Michael and what part of the country they came from.

I have a couple Andrews, a Michael and a "Elder" John Macklem to check out.

Our line came through Penn. late 1700's, to Ontario 1807, Michigan 1854.

I also have a great grandmother named Elizabeth (Thompson)Macklem.

Our first John Macklem, daughter of Sarah Macklem (no husband name listed) is our original family head. We do not have a date and that is what we are searching for. He married Jane Montgomery (no date) and had six children. They lived in Cecil County, Maryland. His wife was related to General Montgomery who died in the battle of Quebec supposedly according to family lore.
The childrens' names are Matthew, Robert (1793-1852), William, Michael, Ann and Jane. We have no other dates but have all the listings of who their children were and who they married. William is listed as marrying Mary Thompson and Michael married the sister, Elizabeth Thompson. Michael is listed as having a son named Andrew who married a Jane Shakespeare.

I can Fax you the "Macklem" family tree as we have the original with the above information plus the family tree that we have put together of our line with the different people. We are descended from Robert and his son John (1829-1911 who married a Crozier from Scotland. My wife will retype the Macklem Family tree so that can be emailed and we can also see about setting up a chart to email on the Macklem line that we have.
Our direct email is picmack@nconnect.net if you wish to contact us directly.

Forgot to say where many of these were located. They talk in the narrative of the family as living in Elkton, Maryland; Newark, Delaware and Chester, PA.

This family is all from PA as far as I know. They had the "Macklem Farm" in Toughkenemon, PA. I have spouses and marriage dates of family members from the family bible. Have been trying to find Macklem connections to this line, let me know. Thanks, Kathy

Hi,

I don't know whereToughkeneman Pa. is but I will be looking it up after I close.

My line of the Macklems arrived around 1787, in Mount Bethel township, Northhampton county, Pennsylvania. This family William b. 1767 and Ann Hastings b. 1768 and their children moved on to Whitchurch, Ontario, Canada around 1805, and then my line James Macklem b. 1789 and Ann Lundy b. 1798 moved to Michigan in 1852.

I have a lot of information on these Macklems, and a little on James Macklem of Niagara Falls, Ontario, I believe this family is known as the "Chippawa Macklems". There were other Macklems that came to America in the early 1800's that were to look up William and James Macklem, but I don't know where the last Macklems went to settle.

I have know information on Macklems that went to the south. The Andrew Macklems that I show stayed in Ontario or Michigan. I would look up exact dates and locations if you wish.

Let me know if you have any questions.
