Hi. I am hoping someone can help me out. I have just started tracing my family origins and have gotten just a bit of info. So here goes....my father's name is Edward Wallach. My grandfather's name was Joseph Wallach. My grandmother's name was Evelyn Osterman Wallach. My grandfather's parent's were Jacob and Jenny Wallach and my grandmother's parent's were Charles and Mignon Osterman. That is as far back as I can go. I think my g grandfather's father's name was Isaac but I wouldn't swear to it. I also found out that either my g grandfather or gg grandfather started a store called Wallach Bros. The Nobby Hatters in New York city. This store was later sold to a big clothing store chain. I believe the store was originally a hat store then it became a full line men's clothing store. Thats all I have at this point. Am looking for any help that is appreciative.

Cheryl: I think we are cousins. I remember your grandfather Joseph and grandmother Evelyn. My grandmother was Edna Wallach who later had last names of Gussaroff, Diamond, and Jacobs. Her mother was Jenny Davison Wallach. Please write me at politiphil@aol.com and let's be in touch!

After this introduction appears the obituary of my father, Robert Elias Ross. He was born Elias Abraham Gussaroff. I've done a genealogical study of the Gussaroff and Wallach families. It has led in many directions and resulted in my family connections. (My father's mother, Edna, was born a Wallach.). My mother, Ann, was adopted. Her original last name was Fleishman. Her birth family lived in the 1930's in the Bronx (NY) on Faile Street. Her grandfather was in the produce business along with two sons. Her mother was named Dorothy and she pursued a business secretarial career according to census records from 1930. I can provide more names from her birth family upon your request. ANY INFORMATION ABOUT ANY OF THESE PEOPLE OR FAMILIES WOULD BE WELCOME!!!!

He also organized activities involving both congregations, such as the first annual joint summer picnic, and was a charter member of the social lunch gang ROMEOS (Retired Older Men Eating Out).

Dear Mr. Ross,

I have just come upon your article in relationship to the Gussaroff and Wallach family. I am a genealogist and I am currently researching the family of Joseph and Lena Davidson of New York City. They had two daughters Jennie V. and Gertrude. I have found that Jennie and Jacob had a daughter Edna Buela Wallach who married Philip Gussaroff resulting in two children Elias and Lena.

My purpose in this search is to find a descendant of Joseph and Lena Davidson who once were owners of 97 Orchard St. which is currently the building owned by the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and today is used as the museum.

Could you kindly contact me by email or by phone 917-273-7968. Joan
