My sister in law purchased a photo album at a yard sale with pictures of children and staff from the Castelar Creche home in Los Angeles. We would like to provide these pictures to any remaining family members of the children listed. The person that originally owned the book wrote the names and dates under each picture. If you have any information regarding this institution or are looking for a family member who may have been adopted from this orphanage between 1921-1925 please email me.

Castelar Creche was located at 818 Castelar Street Los Angeles in 1944 listing. It was run by the Franciscian Sisters of Penance and Christian Charity. I believe it
was only able to provide care for 30 children or rather
infants in '44. I was placed there as an infant direct
from the hosptial in '45 as a boarder. However if memory
is correct, when I turned a year old I would have to be moved, and that would have been with the Sisters of Charity at the Los Angeles Orphan Aslyum. The original adoptions
from Castelar Creche were done through the Native Sons and
Daughters of Los Angeles. You might go into Sacredhealings.com/triadoption/California. Hope this gives you some assistance.

I am responding to a posting dated 2005 about a photo album from the Castelar Creche in Los Angeles. My mother worked and lived there in 1940 and I would be interested to know if there are photos of the staff in the album. I believe my mother's name at that time was Kathryn Sommer (her married name was Kathryn Marnell).
