Hello -

Wondering if anyone out there is familiar with the town of Rataje Nad Sazavou? I'm looking to find what other names this town has gone by in the past? Also looking to see if anyone may be familiar with some of the very small villages just outside of Rataje Nad Sazavou.

Thanks!

Thank you Zlatica! The maps are helpful!!

I suspect my ancestors are from the tiny, tiny village of Utechvosty, which is just outside of Rataje Nad Sazavou.

If I wanted to search church records or census data in the Czech Archives, I understand that information would be organized geographically. With a village as small as Utechvosty (which is so small, I don't think it even has a church), would the records I seek be listed under the near town of Rataje Nad Sazavou?

You're welcome.
I suspect that the tiny village of Utechvosty is presently part of town of Rataje nad Sazavou. I could be wrong. Most likely Utechvosty did not have a church and so the people attended had their baptism, marriage and funeral services done in the village closes to them within 10 miles radius. Best would be to ask someone who is more familiar with research in CZ. Did you look in http://actapublica.eu

Utechvosty parish records are found here:
http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/?akce=hledat&ac_me=P...=
Unfortunately not all books are published online yet, only old ones and one baptism index 1785-1949. So you need to wait for publishing your parish books or hire somebody to do research in Prague archive (where the rest of those parish books are located now).

Utechvosty are part of Podveky village now: http://www.podveky.cz/

Regarding the village of Outêchvosty

Phonetically, when spoken in Czech, how would "Outêchvosty" sound to the ear? Phonetically, would it end with an 'ick'?

Thanks!

Its end is pronounced similarly like in the word 'party'.
Outěchvosty [ɔʊ̯cɛxvɔsti] phonetically in IPA letters.

Do you think Ancestry would allow a small sound file to be attached to these posts?
