I am searching for information on Sarah Jane Taylors birth family, place of origin. She was born 7 Oct 1825 in Ohio, married David Braden 23 Nov 1843 in Belmont, Ohio by minister William Taggart. They went on to have 7 children between 1844-1857. The first 3 born in Ohio the last 4 are born in Lee, Iowa. Sarah is gone from the census records and family group by the 1860 census and is buried with the family in the family plot in the Woolens corner cemetery in Lee county, Iowa. Possibly a divorce or death with last child....wanting to find an obit or information about her death and birth family.

I am wondering if there was a local census between 1840 and 1843 when Sarah married where I might find the Taylor family in Belmont County, Ohio.

Thank you very much and I wish this was my family but Sarah Jane was born in 1825 and married in 1843 so these are later than her generation, she is more the age of the parents in your line.

In the 1830 census, there seems to be only one Braden or Bradan as it was spelled in Wheeling Twp., Belmont Co. In the same twp. was a Taggart family, one of three in the entire township and not too far away was a John Tailor. The only other Taylor/Tailor was Elizabeth...2 women..and Thomas who had no female child the right age.
Arter Bradan (prob. Arthur Braden; he is in the 1850 census in Belmont Co.) 1 m u 5, 2 m 5-10, 1 m 10-15, 1 m 30-40; 1 f u 5, 1 f 15-20; 1 f 20-30
John Tailor (He is also in the 1850 census, I believe) 1 m 5-10, 2 m 10-15, 1 m 15-20, 1 m 40-50; 1 f u 5, 1 f 5-10, 1 f 10-15, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 20-30, 1 f 40-50
William Taggart, preacher, is still in Wheeling Twp. in 1850 and so is John, I think. Right age.
1595-1623 John Taylor 66 PA None Elizabeth 70 PA Sarah 68 PA Henery 27 OH None
Next door: 1596-1624 William Taylor 32 OH Farmer Margarett 32 OH James 7 OH Henry 5 OH Burr GARRETT 15 OH
On the other side of John Taylor is: 1593-1622 Nathaniel Taylor 35 OH Farmer Nancy 35 OH Rachel BARNES 19 OH
Arthur Braden is in another twp. in the 1850 census: Richland Twp. 573-581 Arthur Braden 59 IRE Farmer Nancy 40 IRE John 24 OH Farmer James 23 OH Farmer Margret 20 OH Isabella 18 OH Elizabeth 17 OH Mary 7 OH William 5 OH Arthur Jr. 2 OH
There is no other Braden in the 1850 census, but a young male in Wheeling Twp.:
1241-1261 Samuel Braden 20 IRE Laborer
He is with a John & Martha Allen & family.
My guess is that Nancy is Arthur's 2nd wife. Looked, but didn't find the marriage in Wes Cochran's "Belmont Co., OH Marriages, 1803-1849." But I did find this one...maybe his 1st wife?
Orther Braden & Issabella Fulton 16 Dec 1824 You didn't say when David was born, so are these possible to be his parents?
|
David Braden was born about 1817 in Ohio and his parents are James and Eleanor Braden from Pennsylvania and they spent much of their married life in Ohio and Iowa. I am not sure how DAvid came to meet Sarah Taylor in Wheeling TWP, Ohio but maybe the Braden there in Wheeling is a brother of David or his father or some relations...Wm Taggart is who married Sarah and David however so that is a good sign. Thank you for all the good information, I will do some more digging with what you sent!

I come from the union of Sarah Jane Taylor & David Braden. Their son Thomas Marshall Braden is my gr gr gr grandfather.
I don't have much on Sarah Jane Taylor other than what I've gleaned from here so far. I have the info going forward if you need it.

Thomas Marshall Braden is my gr gr Grandfather. Is your gr gr David or Leroy? My great grandfather is Leroy Taylor and my grandfather was his son Carl Fred Braden.
Fun!
