Dear Myrtle,
Have you or anyone on your boards heard of Sawtelle Veterans Hospital/Sawtelle Veterans Cemetery?
My father-in-law remembers going to his grandmother's (Cora E. Mullens Champion) father's funeral in 1924 at Sawtelle Veterans Cemetery, near Los Angeles, CA.. I am unable to find this veterans cemetery. Some time ago I had someone from Headstone Hunters try to find it with no success. His great-grandfather was supposed to be a Civil War veteran from OH and I have tried searching the records at the National Archives also with no sucess. I have also searched the census for Cora E. in the 1880 but was unable to find a Mullens/Mullins/Miller of her age (she was supposed to have been born in 1872).
I have also tried searching for an obituary in 1924 LA newspaper at the Library of Congress. I am now moving to FL so will not have as much access to these records.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Patti Champion

David,
Thank you for your response. I had been seriously considering that this cemetery was the correct one. Thanks for confirmation. The history looks good.

Happy family tree climbing!

I too have been looking for Sawtelle Veterans Hospital & Cemetery. I saw everyone's posted replies, but unfortunately, David's link only went to a generic VA site. So I'm no closer. Clearly they don't call it "Sawtelle", but none of you listed the actual NAME of the cemetery. So could someone please do that so those of us needing to use the search in the VA site have something to go by? When I searched Sawtelle, I got lots of individuals with that last name, but no listing or history about the Sawtelle cemetery.
