Here is a link to the obituary, the funeral notice and aunt asking for guardianship of the children. These all come from the Utah Digital Newspaper website. There might be other articles about him. Go to the home page of the newspaper and put in Bernard McNulty and click "exact" on the right side. There were 21 articles that the search engine brought up. By clicking exact, it only searches for Bernard McNulty. Otherwise the search engine looks up all the Bernards and all the McNulty's. If he had a middle name, you can put that in, too, and click exact.

Hmm, interesting and some of the facts not lining up. In 1917 Una, his wife is listed in Salt Lake as the widow of Bernard in a city directory at 7 Cordelia Avenue. In 1920 she is in Everette, Washington with the children in the census, James (previous marriage), Carl, Delin, Mary and Bernard. In 1930 she is in Poulsbo, Washington with son John, and Barney (Bernard). In 1939 she travels to Hawaii with a 6 year old, John March, in her care. In 1940 she is in Poulsbo with daughter Mary and the child, John March, listed as her grandson. She dies in1952 in Poulsbo.

The petition for guardianship says both parents were deceased which is not the case, was someone in the family trying to get their hands on the real estate?

Why was Bernard and Una in Salt Lake if his place of residence was Nevada?

Can you help me piece this together? I was hoping the obit might provide more information about his circumstances of his death.

I am not quite sure how to get to the place to search the newspaper for any and all articles

The home page for the Utah Digital Newspapers is, where you can do a search:
http://digitalnewspapers.org/

Also, according to Bernard's death certificate, Una was the informant.

Then, in August of the same year, the aunt applied for guardianship. That is very confusing as Una was alive in April at the time of Bernard's death and according to the census records you found, she is alive later.

Love that death certificate. I wondered what he died from.

Una did some real estate transfers in 1914 and I found their marriage record in 1904. In 1900 they were living together in Nevada, but he listed his name as James. He must have married her after they got to Utah. Not sure if she was ever married to the father of her first child, James Hoine, because the father was in San Francisco by 1900, and she was with Bernard.

Interesting I am not sure who the Aunt is that wanted custody. Mary Breen, there is no Breen in Bernard's family. He has a two sisters with Mary in their names but neither are Breen. His mothers maiden name was Brown.

Its for sure a mystery
