Surnames: Hewes, Hughes, Miles, Mulford
I am tracking Frederick Searles Hewes, born 1830 in Louisiana and lived in Mississippi. In 1886, David M. Hughes of New York died and left a bequest in his will to each of Frederick's 4 daughters. I have to think there is a family connection and would like to find it.

David M. Hughes was born in 1800 in Dutchess County NY to Christopher and Abigail (Mulford) Hughes. Christopher was born in Wales Sept. 17, 1745. He settled in New Haven Connecticut where he was a sea captain until about 1785, when he came to Dutchess County, New York. His children were Samuel, Elizabeth, Christopher Jr., Abigail, Fountain N., John R. and David M. Christopher's first wife was Abigail Miles.

Any thoughts or ideas will be helpful. Thanks, Ann

It is actually Frederick Searle Hewes, without the S. My father is Frederick Searle Hewes, V. The first Frederick was the son of William Gardner Hewes from New Orleans.
