I am in contact with a lady doing research on Thomas Lonergan of Cahir. Her name is Joan Keogh at e mail
golly.31foxy@ntlworld.com. I don't think she will mind
me giving you her e mail. I am related to a Catherine
Lonergan from Cahir. parents John & Ellen. Catherine\came to Australia in 1855. Apparently
some of her relatives came out later. Joan is trying
to sort it all out as some gave a different name for
parents (could be cousins) If I can help you further
please contact me....Regards...Elizabeth Liddicoat

Have several Lonergans in the town of Cahir at this time - some colourful characters indeed, that appeared to have emmigrated in the late 1840s.
The are still Lonergans here, as there have been since the 1200s.
Any more details on your btranch??

I am related to a Catherine Lonergan born in Cahir
Tipperary about 1830-35. I believe her brothers were
Michael, Edmund and Thomas. Catherine and some
of her brothers came to Australia. Thomas stayed in
Cahir and took over the lease of a farm. If these are
of any interest I would like to hear from you..Elizabeth

Do you have any placenames associated with the Lonergan farm in Cahir - sometimes when they emmigrated they called their new home/farm in Australia after the Irish homestead.
Or sometimes they put it on their headstones.
Any early wills?

My great-grandfather, Patrick Morrissey, was born in Ireland in 1835. He travelled to Australia and settled around Kempsey, NSW. In 1864 he married Mary Lonergan (b. Ireland, 1844). I would like to find out anything about where Mary came from and anything about her family.

I'm not certain if we could be related and am a bit short on family history. To the best of my knowledge, my great grandfather was a Thomas Lonergan, supposedly of Rochestown. He married a Mary Ann Cummins, supposedly also of Rochestown. I don't know how many children they had. However, I know that his son, Thomas, my grandfather, came to the US and lived in Brooklyn, and worked for the Pennsylvania RR. When Thomas' (my grandfather's) wife (Ellen Rose Murphy) died, he returned to Ireland sometime around 1905, with his three children: Thomas, James and Joseph. Thomas (my Uncle) stayed in Cahir and worked the family farm in Cahir, Ballylooby, Co. Tipperary. Whether this was the farm of his father's, I am not certain. We just referred to it as the famiily farm. Some of the remaining of Thomas' children and grandchildren still live in the area of Cahir. His son, Joseph, lives in Ardfinnan. His brother, James (my father), and Joseph, who became a Holy Ghost father and pastored a parish in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA, came to America in the early 1920's..

The only info I have on our Lonergan family from Cahir is that their daughter Catherine Lonergan b. 1830 approx. came to australia in 1855 and married Richard Reid in Yass
At this stage I do not know her brothers and sisters names but I know there were a lot of Lonergans in Tipperary at the time. I believe that one of her brothers may have come to australia as well and another stayed in Ireland at the family farm. Her parents were John & Ellen Lonergan from Cahir
